Just a thought. A forum for news should be news, not name-calling (hens or plants) or starting threads with a smug comment and then a commentary without any data or news. Leave all the screeching in a separate forum where people can post to their hearts' desire all the commentaries from their favorite right or left wing blogs.

If the forum is just news without any comment, no different than a Yahoo or Google front page. I don't think it would last anyway because it is only natural to comment about a news item.

And also a bunch of ones for maybe the largest 25 or maybe 30 MSAs in country making it easier to build personal relationships with folks who are close enough to hang out with. Of course, Columbus Ohio would need to be one of themn since we rise pretty high on the queerness scale.

We've done similar in some of the umpteen million car forums I'm in and it has lead to bunch of new friends and really worthwhile local hangouts. We ended up building a NHRA street legal series from folks who own the same relatively rare car I do and would meet at California Motor Speedway to have some fun on a regular basis. Of course gay guys aren’t going to be interested in anything like this, but there are all sorts of local possibilities for meet ups.

We did stuff like this from the Pontiac G8 forum carved up into regional threads with SoCal being one of them it and got very active. No way would I have met these people any other way.

The joke here about the apron was that Dan had the stealth Blue G8 and his 'good sport' wife always came to the track with him. He got a new 6 speed SRT 8 Chally and Tami kept pounding her husband's ass with the 60hp less powerful G8 GT ..... so whoever lost cooked dinner. So my video was a tribute to that happening. We had great fun.

The point here was the sub dividing into metros help us not get lost in the general board conversation even though there were only 26,000 of us out of the 36,000 cars sold and even two girl owners.

Same could certainly work here with 320,000+ forum members. There's 1,100+ in central Ohio.

It's fine to comment on the news item, as long as the OP is actually a piece of news, not opinion.

E.g. these threads belong to a political commentary forum:

    http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/2423871

while these belong to a news forum:

"Colonel" Deco managed to turn a topic about grocery shopping into a political attack on conservative RJ members, so no, your idea wouldn't work.

I agree, but there is something we could do that might reign in some of the animus.

    Or lead to killings.
