Going on the Freedom of the Seas cruise from Miami through the Carribean with Atlantis in January? If so, will this be your first cruise or are you a veteran?

NOTE: If you're not interested in going, could you post your "I can't imagine ever going on a gay cruise" comments on one of the other threads so we can use this one for a decent roll call? Thanks!

We are going! This will be my first and my partner's 2nd all-gay cruise. We've been on plenty of straight cruises before... and loved them so this promises to be even better!

No cabin number assigned yet but we will be E2, so probably Deck 6.

I want to go, but this would be my 3rd on that cruise. I want to do the Solstice on in March (the ship is suppose to be incredible) or maybe save up for the Mediterranean on in Summer '09. But, heck, I may cave last minute and go cuz there is always rooms available last minute

Well, if you go in March, drop a note and we can get a drink. Will be on that one (even have cabins already, thanks to a very persistent friend) -- assuming it gets out of dry dock and Atlantis starts actually advertising it.

Note: My first choice was January because I've done the Jan cruise before, but one friend stomped his foot and held his breath until all 10 of us had to agree to do the March one.

I'd love for my partner and I to go... but first, I gotta convince the boyfriend that it is not going to be one big ol' orgy, though.

    Or is it? icon_question.gificon_rolleyes.gificon_twisted.gificon_eek.gif

Just got off the Atlantis cruise in the Mediterranean a couple of weeks ago and, SAHEM, I can attest that personally met at least eight couples who never hooked up with anyone but each other during the entire week.

Nearly every cruise-related comment on RJ falls into one of three categories:
"They're just floating bathhouses/orgies." This is invariably from a guy who has never been on one.
"I'm afraid that it will be a floating bathhouse" or "I'm afraid everyone will be hotter than me", which sound like opposites in a way but the first can be a way for some guys to deal with their insecurities about the second.
"OMG I had the best time ever." Almost always the comment by guys who have actually been on one.
I was in the second group, and now count myself firmly in the third.

Next time we're in the chatroom, put the BF on and I'll give him the full assurances that the ship will not be an orgy of 3,100 guys and 38 lesbians.

I made this point in another thread on gay cruises, but based on my experience (3 so far), IF you want to have sex all the time, you can probably find it. However, it is NOT directly out in the open and it's not like you'll accidentally trip over a pool full of guys going at it.

In all three of my previous trips, I was with my (ex) partner, so I never really had a reason to look and I never came across it either. This time will be on my own, so I may be looking a tiny bit harder :-)

It's really a friendly, fun environment and while there are lots of hot guys around to get your attention, there are more regular guys around just enjoying the cruise, casinos, laying on the deck, etc, etc.

In the end, it's what you make of it. You do not need to be careful or go out of your way to avoid the guys who are trying to hook up all the time -- things are pretty tame out in the open and in the corridors and such. If you want to look, you can find it, but you have to make that effort.

It is not a floating bathhouse :-) It is, however, a LOT of fun and you'll probably be somewhat bummed when you get off the boat and return to the "normal" world.

They are fun fun fun. Just like any other gay destination, you make it what you want it to be.

I've thought about it, but haven't gone on one yet.

I do admit, however, to having a very stereotypical image in my head (like posted above... big orgie...)
BUT.... logic does kick in and I'm sure there are not sex parties in the pool 24/7, haha.

Any idea the age range of the passengers?? My friends that have gone tend to be a little older (in their 40's+) than me ( 28 )... Is it pretty diversified??

If I had to guess, I'd say the median age is probably about 34. That means plenty of guys older and younger than this, of course. I think the January cruise probably skews a little younger and the March cruise a little older.

I didn't see a lot of 21 year olds, but given it's sort of pricey, it makes sense it's going to select out folks making enough to afford this (or being with someone that can afford it).

I don't recall seeing many guys much over than early 50s, but of course, there could have been (lots of guys here >50 that you would not guess from their pics).

I'm sure I understand why everyone is so concerned about the amount of sex taking place...

What is wrong with lots of guys getting together to have lots of sex?

I'm not saying that is all Atlantis is about. From what I've heard, it is far from it.

But why are people on here so worried about there being too much sex? My worry is there might not be enough LOL...

Exactly, what's wrong with a bit of sex. For the amount I'm paying there better had be a bit of jiggy jiggy otherwise I'll be sueing Atlantis.

I'll be on the ship with my partner. It's our first cruise and we are every bit as nervous as we are excited. A lot of it has to do with what people say about the cruises. I don't care about the sex at all but I do worry about:

    1. Will I look like a fat, out of shape, senior citizen compared to everyone else? This is probably completely unrealistic since I'm only 37 and in decent shape but I've been told by friends that 60% of the ship will be the type you'd see on the cover of a magazine.

    2. Will I be properly prepared for all the parties? Experienced cruisers say this is one of the most important aspects of the cruise.

    3. How do I decorate our door? Experienced cruisers say this is a must but I cannot find any advice or tips.

    4. I worry about over spending. Many people have told me that it is so easy to just swipe your "credit card" that you can easily end up with an additional $1,500 to $2,000 bill by the end of the trip.

In spite of all my fears and concerns I am VERY excited to spend a week partying with some of the coolest guys on the planet which is what 100% of past cruisers say I can count on.

Here are my answers that will hopefullyhelp you out. This is our 4th Atlantis Vacation and before our first one we were nervous too but we had the time of our lives and everyone was so friendly.

    1. No you will not look fat or our of shape because you are not. There are some guys on the ship that may look like they could be on the cover of a magazine but most people are so down to earth and friendly that it does not matter what shape you are in, everyone will have a blast and you will meet so many great people on board at the meals, parties and on excursions. Just relax and have fun.

    2. Some people do go all out on the party costumes and some people do not dress up at all. The first cruise we went on we did not really take any costumes per say (we did not really know any better) and we fit right in with everyone else. This time we will have some beads for the Mardi Gras party and costumes for the 70's and White party. They are not elaborate outfits but believe me you will see some amazing costumes and some you will wonder how they fit in luggage but you will be impressed. This trip is an experience like no other and we recommend it to everyone.

    3. This is actually going to be our first attempt at door decoration. On board most people put pictures on the doors and their names along with some other decorations. Just like the costumes the door decorations will range from none to very elaborate.

    4. This you do have to watch if you plan on doing a lot of drinking because it will add up. One way to monitor it is on the TV in your room You can see up to date charges and a running total as the trip goes on so you can see if you need to slow down on the spending or if you are doing okay.

I hope some of this helps. The main thing is not to worry about a thing. The cruises are so much fun and everyone is so nice and laid back you will never need to worry about what you are wearing. You will have an amazing time on this trip I promise. I have never met anyone that has been on one of these vacations and not been happy with the decision to go.

Anyway, relax, have fun planning, getting things ready and packing for the trip. We are doing our shopping around this weekend for our door decorations and some other little last minute things. If you see us on board be sure to say Hi!

    See everyone in 15 days!!!
