    They'll never beat Filiberto's.

And they'll definitely never beat this:

If it means healthier / fresher - I'm in favor.

"Healthier / fresher" in fast food terminology means "the shit pile is still steaming in the snow, not frozen solid like our competitor's."

Meh, I think they're headed in the wrong direction and don't fully appreciate their audience.

Taco Bell is, just as the article describes, late night or hangover food. Trying to become a cheaper Chipotle will make them... a cheaper Chipotle, in every sense of that word. They should, instead, embrace the market they have really go deep with the hangover/bar food angle. Maybe even diversify with smaller walk-up store fronts close to bars and dorms or food trucks that can follow their audience.

Unless they ditch the GMO corn they use for all their taco shells and tortillas, I'm still boycotting them.

I wonder if they'll still have an Under $1 Menu of these new options? Neh.icon_neutral.gif

Endo, you got it in one: "Pricier indigestion."

This is not about new tastes or higher quality ingredients, it is about upping the profit. $1.49 for black beans and rice? KaCHING! goes the register. Just think about the real cost of the ingredients. I know there is overhead, but the base of it all is to wrap it up pretty and charge as much as possible.

The stuff still gives me indigestion.

Seems to me they're just living out their 'franchise war' destiny as foretold in Stallone's "Demolition Man"

    "Gourmet Mexican"?

That's what actual Mexican restaurants owned by Mexican families are for icon_rolleyes.gif

Just stick to the cheap stuff that people like to eat at 2am.

Taco Bell doesn't realize it's the Walmart of Mexican fast food. They'll never become Target.

Can't remember the last time I ate TacoBell. Thankfully there are none close enough for a 2 AM hangover run.

Better not. This is my "I feel like killing someone, we should get some nasty fake meat to make me feel better" comfort food.

Don't forget the MSG-encrusted Doritos brand shell. Mmm! Is that gut rot I smell?

I prefer normal heart attack in a hard shell, not the enhanced fake cheese heart attack in a hard shell.
Hey, do you think someone will put the excrement in this food too?

    {Good video reference}

Sometimes I don't think it's a "prediction" so much as last resort. These mega corps aren't stupid, and when the pool of creativity dry up, they take from every source available to them.
