USA Gymnastics is already posting videos of the routines as they happen on their Youtube page. There are also routines from the Junior Men's All-Around earlier today.

    Thoughts on tonight's competion:

-Sam Mikulak, wow! He had quite a night! Despite a fall on floor, he made the boldest statement of the night. He would actually be in first place right now if it weren't for the fall. Definitely a dark horse for the Olympic team if he repeats this on the second day.

-Jonathan Horton made a strong comeback after a long road of injuries. I was honestly impressed. However, I think is days as the top US gymnast are definitely done. Four other gymnasts beat him and some of them had mistakes while Horton did about as well as he could do. He's still incredibly vital to the team nevertheless.

-Orozco is giving Leyva a run for the money. Only half a tenth apart!

-Ruggeri was all over the place most of the night, but he finally delivered big on high bar and floor.

-Pommel horse and still rings are by far this team's weaknesses. Sadly, there isn't one gymnast who's actually great at both. Most are good on one and lousy on the other. Chris Brooks is probably the only one (outside of the top all-arounders) who doesn't completely suck on both.

-Josh Dixon (the one who recently came out) had a pretty good meet, but realistically speaking, he doesn't bring anything to the Olympic team. He doesn't fill any gaps because he sucks on pommel horse and rings. Plus, he's not even top 3 on his best events.

-What were the execution judges on vault smoking? Scores were way too high! Sure, there were some great vaults, but even the best ones I saw definitely had some additional execution errors. Definitely 0.3-0.5 too high for most vaults.

I'll be relying on you to post pictures of all of the men's olympic gymnasts, including shirtless pics and telling shots of their crotches.
That is the primary criteria that tells me who to root for.

what do you think of the rivalry between gabby and jordyn.... i think the rivalry is great for the U.S. when it comes to bringing us closer to the gold,.... but im personally a gabby fan... she made a huge progress from last years worlds to this year, i just love her body lines.

your pick for the 5 members to go to the Olympics?

    mines so far:
    Raisman,
    Wieber,
    Douglas,
    Mahrohney,
Li, Ross, Liukin (depending on what she looks like at the trials)

as for the men's team, im still playing around with the possibilities, but guessing 3 all-arounders, and 2 rings/pommel guys... mehh idk, so many possibilities. icon_confused.gif

I could not be more proud of Gabby! The Flying Squirrel was only 0.2 behind Wieber! To think she would've easily won had she not fallen off beam.

Her progress has been tremendous. Just last year she was considered a long shot of even making the World Championship team, and this year she just narrowly missed winning the national title! At least she easily grabbed the national title on bars.

At this point, I think this will be the Olympic team if the same is repeated at trials:

    Wieber
    Douglas
    Raisman
    Ross

The fifth spot is wide open to anyone who shows readiness at trials. I'm sure you're asking why McKayla Maroney isn't automatically on my team. That's because so far she's only proven to be great on one event - vault. No one can deny she's by far the best vaulter in the world right now. In fact, she's as close as it gets to a guaranteed gold medal for USA at this point because no one in the world vaults quite like her. However, she sucks big time on bars, bites the dust on beam, and is super inconsistent on floor. As super as her vaults are, they really don't provide that much of an advantage for the team since she can't seem to contribute anywhere else. Can't really afford one-event specialists on a 5-member team.

Same scenario for Anna Li. She hit both of her bar routines during nationals. Her routine on the second day was absolutely stellar! However, that's the only area where she is good. She bombed big time on beam and dropped floor and vault. Overall, her transition from NCAA to elite has been pretty rough. I don't think she can handle this level. Girl isn't making this Olympic team. She'll be lucky to make alternate really.

Alicia Sacramone is in an interesting position. For one, she looked much better than I expected after that achilles injury. I'm honestly surprised she got just about all her old skills back. She's shown such steadiness on beam that she can be counted on for the team. However, she needs to throw the Yurchenko double twist at trials. No question about that.

And as for Miss Liukin, well, what can I say? She looked like shit at nationals. Two fucked up bar routines, one shitty beam routine, and one good beam routine. She clearly has Marta Karolyi wrapped around her finger to get invited to trials after a disastrous showing at nationals (sucks more for Chellsie Memmel!). This is what I think will happen, she'll either come to trials and look absolutely spectacular or she'll withdraw from trials if she doesn't feel ready.

I don't expect Bridget Sloan or Rebecca Bross to make waves either. Sloan has made a pretty good comeback on bars, but she's still really rough on every other apparatus. She might be a long shot for an alternate position. But she's set even if this doesn't work out because she'll be competing for the Gators starting next collegiate season. And Bross, poor Brossie, she just continues to self-destruct. It's been really hard to watch her this year because she doesn't have nearly the competitive fire as before. Also, that beam dismount! I don't see things improving much for her.

Trials will not fail to be interesting because at least the Olympic team will be announced right after the trials! No Marta "death" camps this time around because there's not enough time between now and the Olympics for a camp, so they're going to decide on the team right then and there.

I am sad to see Mikulak hurt and having only competed PH tonight. I think he really jeopardized himself. Rumor has it that his ankle injury wasn't really that bad, so if there's any truth to that, he did himself no favors by doing only pommel horse.

Li is not making this team. I can guarantee that, lol. She's not even going to make alternate. Right now I see Ross making the team with Sacramone, Price, and Finnegan as the alternates.

I'll wait until they officially announce the team tomorrow morning. Right now I have no idea if the selection committee will be more interested in a pommel horse specialist, rings specialist, or someone decent on both. That position is wide open depending on what voids they want to fill.
