Being prepared to hobnob with A+ list people when traveling especially to gay communities

I must admit to feeling somewhat intimidated wondering if I would be prepared to meet A+ list people when traveling. Based upon the following dialog in another thread, I thought a good video on preparation would be in order.

From the thread about snobs: http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/2425248/

Art_Deco saidI'm surprised by your thread. Just yesterday we drove a visiting RJer to lunch, drinks & meal on us. He got to meet A+ list people in our gay community, so many that I was kinda embarrassed, since they interrupted our meal, we hardly got to speak with him.

CuriousJockAZ saidThe above really needs no explanation -- speaks volumes. Anyone who uses the term "A+ list", not to mention feels the need to point out that lunch, drinks, and meal was "on us" is not someone I would want to have lunch with OR buy my lunch.

socalfitness saidNow, now. Mr. AD is just demonstrating the same flair he uses as Chief Society Editor of the Condo Association Newsletter. It is significant eating with A+ people. The problem with A- people is they usually don't know the proper use of the Salad Fork. And B+ people. Pathetic. They often place their elbows on their plates. icon_redface.gif

southbeach1500 saidExcellent points, though most of us must come to acknowledge the reality that we are unworthy of hob-nobbing with "A+ listers" such as "Light Colonel" Deco.

It is important to try and make a good first impression if you expect to be introduced to the "highest echelons of society".

You guys, if I can be of any help just let me know. Perhaps we should go to lunch....and, of course, it's on me. icon_wink.gif

Would there be any A+ list people from the gay community? It would be a waste to learn all about the Salad Fork and not get a chance to properly impress or use a Soup Spoon instead of pouring the soup into my mouth.

Is your gay republican AZ sheriff still on the A list. Or did he drop to the D list with that unfortunate BF deportation incident?

I am also gratified that you offered to pay for lunch. Let it not be said that only some make such magnanimous offers. But just to put everything on the table so to speak - these days when we have to watch our pennies, would the lunch being on you include the tip and parking, or would I be expected to pay for that in return?

This is when the Bucket woman (and probably her son Sheridan) should be called in. She is well versed, including proper ambiance for delightful riparian entertainment.

southbeach1500 saidDrinks were rather craftily left out.... which proves neither of you are on the "A+ list" as a bona fide offer from a "gay mover and shaker" on the "A+ list" specifically states "lunch and drinks on me. icon_wink.gif

That is so correct. For our "magnanimous" host, drinks are a major part of the bill, to put it mildly. Perhaps though they allow a less expensive option by charging a corkage fee so that a A+ list person can bring in a paper bag the finest screw-top wine from Publix. But the question remains, even if allowed, would an A+ list person go that route? What does Ms. Bucket say about this?

You know, having to pay for drinks, the tip, and parking makes this offer more like one of those free cruise deals from an Orlando Travel Agency. No reflection on any RJ member, just all those great deals seem to originate out of Orlando.

That a bunch of waxy, too-tan Bravo gays would unwittingly christen their clique after a documentary focusing on a doomed It Boy who achieved a brief flash of fame has always spoke volumes to me:

Great video. The real A List. But these boys in Florida have achieved even more. They are on the A+ List, and they don't even need to worry about going to the gym or having a healthy diet with minimal alcohol.

You think you're so smart. Publix's finest comes in a box.

I stand corrected. Last time I was at a Publix in Boca they did not have the box. But I don't go there too often or stay up to date on the Publix fine wines.

I enjoy dining out and eating all my meals with my hands tied behind my back.

That is the A- List. The good Sheriff and the Condo Association officials are on the A+ List.

From what I understand, that could preclude you from being invited to dine with the A+ list movers and shakers of the gay community. But there was in the past someone who had similar table manners but was allowed to dine anyway by paying his own way and helping with the bill, carrying a 20' by 40' rainbow flag, and waiting until the atmosphere at the table lightened up a bit after about 6 rounds of drinks.

It's surprising how approachable many of the "A-List" people I've met over the years have been.

Some people use their status as a hammer against others. Others, the good ones, disregard it an are just simply people.

MuchMoreThanMuscle said^ It's probably just your impression that makes some of these A+ people respond positively to you. A tall, handsome man is going to extract a more positive response from most people.

Really? CEO's and government ministers are going to be impressed by my looks and height? It actually gives me an edge?

DAMN... I should be capitalizing on this! icon_twisted.gif

You have in the past provided some excellent videos for us to prepare to hobnob with A+ list people. I realized that the earlier video in this thread on proper table manners was a good start but not sufficient to be fully prepared. One must get a well-rounded schooling that this following video provides a foundation for.

Self-esteem is part of it. If you think you're an A+ list person, you condition yourself to act like one. I will take this to heart prior to my next trip to Boca. I want to be fully prepared whether we eat in one of Boca's finest restaurants or at a restaurant in one of the exclusive Boca country clubs. Keep in mind Hyacinth's reminder:
1:45 Hyacinth: "People who try and pretend they're superior make it so much harder for those of us who really are."
