Not that it's important at all ...

however what's up with all these guys at the gym wearing black socks
    pulled up with their shorts???

I recently left Manhattan and have never ever seen this look
there or in LA gyms. Is this Suburbia trying to be fashionable
    with a nerd/geek look?

Seriously if you're 22 do you really want to dress like your 82 year old grandfather living in Miami Beach?

Wait are you talking about Nike high top socks? If so, it is pretty common around people my age because of sports like football and lacrosse.

Yeah...asked a guy if I'd missed a memo or something?

Buddy of mine said he wears them because he doesn't like having any white clothes; easier on laundry day..

I also see them worn with those ugly soccer sandals, or around here with moccasins. ..Yes it's ugly, but not much worse than Crocs or capris for men.

No. they are higher. Think of the white socks latin gang guys where, only make them black.

some even look like girls hose. I guess its some sort of "compression" look

    Like you said.

It's just people doing what they want. If you have a problem with it, then the problem is yours not theirs.

I think it's supposed to be an athletic look like the socks that rugby players often wear.

    if that's what you mean

I've been wearing crew to knee length socks since I was wee little lad playing pop warner football, and the trend stuck with every sport since then.

Lol'd for reals when I saw this.

I think it's one thing to just wear them and it's another to have the attitude and way you carry yourself that makes people look like a douche.

I wear black socks...but they are the ankle high kind. Easier to keep clean. They last longer because I don't have to use bleach, only detergent and the power of Pine-Sol, baby.

I noticed this the other week, watching my teen nephew and his identically dressed friend walking off on their own away from our little group. It's still better than the stupid bell bottoms we had. Each generation has their thing. This one coming on the, um, heals of showing no sock, so there's the rebel in that.

I hate white socks, so I wear black ankle socks if I have shorts/shoes on--never crew socks with shorts.

One thing I noticed in the last month with younger cyclists in my group is 20-something guys wearing calf-high socks like European soccer socks. That looks really odd with cycling shorts. At first, I thought they were compression socks, but they're regular knee-high socks. Weird.
