My parents have been away for two months and I'm living in their place.

Feeling hungry and haven't had a chance to go grocery shopping and found a box of fish fingers.

Something that was my favorite as a child but it's been at least 6 years since I last

I was surprised to find they taste like absolute shit!

Just got me thinking these things I was willing to eat as a kid but are incredibly cheap rotten tasting food substitues.

Mc Donald's fries, Turkey twizzlers, Those long frozen Ice pops in every color, Bubble gum tape ball, yellow non dairy water based ice cream, cheap 10c chocolate bars and even cheaper maize based cheese and pickle flavored shapes.

When I was a kid, I used to eat a lot of vegetables. I'd eat them all the time. Now I still eat them pretty frequent, but I have to force myself to eat them, and there are a few I just won't eat.

As for junk food, doritos and funyon rings were my favorte. I haven't had chips in ages. I had cheese cheetos sevearal months back and they tasted weird.

I used to eat all sorts of crap. Fast food, candy, chips, pizza. I agree with AMT87 in that it doesn't taste anything like I remembered. As a matter of fact, it tastes downright gross. I guess once we get used to "good" food, those are the things our body craves.

I have agree and say that Doritos were my downfall as a kid. I'd sit on the couch and practically go through an entire bag. Now, it's been ages since I've had them.

oh i was kinda disappointed when i read teh first post, i was thinking more along the lines of nasty "not grocery store food" items, like last month i ate a caterpillar larva. It was nasty but hey i got a dollar, or the worms i would dig out of grandma's garden and eat, because the worm in teh tequila bottle wasn't big enough to split 5 ways, or the slimy slugs that were in her garden as well. Those were hard to get down, tough little boogers they were.

But as for the normal food that i ate, hell you name it and i'd put it in me, sadly i still eat a lot of it, but i can say i have given up all Little Debbie, Hostess and all other "recess snack food" food items. LIke moon pies, oh how i loved those nasty morsels of sugar and sugar. I also have given up pop, just no craving for it anymore, i think after drinking an average of 5 Pepsi Ones a day for a year killed that one for me.

    Chicken Fingers
    Fish Sticks
    Kool Aid
    Alphabit pasta
    Ketchup sandwiches

    Teddy Grams (cookies)
    Fruit rollups
    Fruit by the foot
    Dunk-a-roos
    Pisbury mini pizza's

Alots I guess.. Up until I was 5 I also had a gross little habit of picking up gum off the ground and eating it. EWWWWWW icon_redface.gif

During Celtics basketball games on TV I'd go through a 2-liter of Mountain Dew, a pint of Haagen Dazs, and a big bag of Doritos in one sitting. And I was still a very scrawny kid until I started going to the gym at age 20. Oh to have that metabolism back (well not really...there were lots of hypoglycemic episodes as well).

theycallmeRED -- yes, I did exactly that. There was so much sugar that it would form little islands in the middle of the cereal. Eventually I would spoon it out and eat it.

RBY71 -- I also tried Milk Bone dog biscuits once. They were terrible!

In addition to dozens of native fruits that are all unfamiliar to Westerners... hm...

Street food - Fishballs, Tempura, Caramelized Grilled Bananas (we call banana-Q's), Grilled Bananas with butter and sugar (we call Ginanggang), Boiled peanuts, Corn on the cob, Quail eggs fried in batter (Kwek-kwek), Pancakes, Roasted peanuts with Hot Chili sauce and salt, Balut and Penoy (Both boiled duck eggs, the former with a developed chick embryo), Sweet Potato Candies, A candy called yema (I don't know how that is made), etc. LOL Street food is so varied here.

Thousands of Junk Food, from Imported Pringles to locally made cheese puffs.

    Yeah, Happy Meals. icon_razz.gif

Weirder things include wild plants and fruits like the really sour Camachile, the sweet miter-shaped seeds of a wild vine we call Santo Papa, Raw sugarcane stalks, library paste icon_lol.gif, cake dough, rice and chocolate, raw mangoes or star plums and soy sauce/salt/chili, milk & chocolate milk powder (with no water), powdered sugar, the nectar of certain flowers that can be obtained by cutting off the bottom end, etc.

No wonder I ended up crazy! icon_biggrin.gif
