When it comes to the size of government - the Repub propaganda machine would like you to believe that the Repubs are for small government and the Democrats are for big government.

The FACTS tell a totally different story.

Over the past 35 years, the two presidents with the WORST records for expanding the size of the federal government are: Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush.
They both expanded the size of government.

Democratic presidents: Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama all REDUCED the size of government on their watches.

Only Repub George H. W. Bush reduced the size of government on his watch and he reduced it by less than the Democratic presidents did.

I'm doubtful that there will be any responses to this thread from the RJ Repubs.

They don't want the Repub party's dirty little secret to get out!

We have also eliminated 700,000 government jobs due to cuts in the federal workforce by Obama and cuts to state and local employees by Republicans, which have had the combined effect of putting a drag on the economy.

    Yup.
Repub-controlled States have gone on a government job killing BINGE over the past 2 years.

It's debateable whether they did it to slow employment growth in an effort to try to hurt President Obama's chances of reelection - or if they did it simply because their states were economically strapped due to the Bush recession.

    Probably a little of both.

In my ultra conservative city, teachers jobs were slashed due to budget shortful. Howver, the 60 million dollar high school football stadium is almost completed! Talk about fiscal responsibility!

    LOL
    I'm not surprised.
I lived in Dallas for two years.

From what I remember - Texans worship football above all.
Even God and the Repub party are less reverentially treated than the holy game of football!

That there are less employees could just mean they sent those jobs overseas (just a little joke)

By MERRILL GOOZNER, The Fiscal Times
April 5, 2012Public sector employment has fallen sharply in the wake of The Great Recession, which is markedly different from every other recession of the past 35 years, according to a new analysis from the Economic Policy Institute.

Government jobs held steady between December 2007, when the downturn began, and September 2009, when it officially ended. That was largely due to beefed up aid to state and local governments contained in the Obama administration’s $787 billion stimulus package. When that disappeared, so did more than 600,000 state and local teacher, police, firefighter and other public sector jobs, which added about a half percentage point to the overall unemployment rate.

Which president’s economic recovery benefited most from an increasing number of government jobs? Oddly enough, it was President Ronald Reagan

    Yup.

It's really unbelievable that the Repubs have been able to trick so many uninformed people into believing that the Repub party (and the sainted Reagan) are fiscally responsible and pro-small government - when their record is one of gross fiscal irresponsibility and BIG government.

That's why the facts need to get spread to the people - to counter the Repub Big Lies.

Well - in the two-faced double-dealing Mitt Romney's case - it's coming out of BOTH.

Except, you don't understand what the term "big government" means in the first place.

That's because it's meaning changes depending on what Frank Luntz tells the GOP it should mean... icon_rolleyes.gif

    LOL
    YUP

The Repubs are constantly moving the goalposts and changing the definitions of things in order to make excuses for their own failed record.

Which is a polite way of saying that they cheat.
