This is will be my first time getting tested for HIV...and I'm very stressed as I have a sore throat. Is one place better than the other? If I have the insurance should I go to my primary care doctor or will the test be the same at any testing center? Thanks for your help!

First, good for you for being tested. Don't be nervous... regardless of the results you at least know, and you can then take steps protect yourself and your partners.

It doesnt really matter if go to a clinic instead of your PCP. Rapid test results/swabs are often just as good as full on blood draws from your PCP. (of course the blood draw is the more reliable of the two).

Get a rapid test first. You can go to your local healthcare center most will do a rapid test for free. Then follow up with your Dr. and ask his advice. Did you have bareback sex? If it was only oral there is a much much better chance you are not infected. I applaud you doing something about it. Good luck and be well!

A sore throat is generally not thrush... Could be the clap though... So dont just get the hiv test and think you're good. Bacterial infections are treatable, but potentially life-threatening when undetected.

You have a sore throat and your first assumption is HIV?

Unless you rode someone bareback...you might want to worry about other things first.

    ^ This.

Though as has been said, good for you for wanting to do the test. It's nerve-wracking, but better to know.
