There is little we can do. How's that Obama reset in relations working?
In 2009, Obama unilaterally pulled out of a missile shield giving the Russians something they wanted very much, embarrassing our allies, but he did not demand a quid pro quo. Many experts believed he could have obtained concessions from the Russians in return, especially to get some support with Iran and Syria. The professionals at State must have made that suggestion, but Obama and his Chicago advisors knew better. He was both naive and arrogant. Any experienced person would tell you that the Russians respect strength and you don't make concessions without demanding something in return.
Now recently Hillary said our strategy is to hope the Russians will help. How weak and lame is that? Putin is now ruthlessly cracking down on internal dissent, so he is hardly going to be shamed by us into doing "the right thing" in Syria.
So what can we do? Not much. When a leadership vacuum exists in the West, bad things are more likely to happen.
A shame with all the killing.
