Gay Priest Rips Catholic Church's Anti-Gay Stance in Speech Against MN Marriage Amendment

at 3:30 in the clip above:
    freedom of conscience 1782

1782 Man has the right to act in conscience and in freedom so as personally to make moral decisions. "He must not be forced to act contrary to his conscience. Nor must he be prevented from acting according to his conscience, especially in religious matters."53

    http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/p3s1c1a6.htm

So in 1967, the current Pope said that we have to follow our own conscience even if it goes against the Pope.

But he is not a representative of Vatican City, his bossers word is the last word on such issues, and he may well be made to know his place too.

Considering that they were among the biggest drive in the amendment in Minnesota, I'm glad he took a stand against his higher ups.

A caring and hopeful message from someone in the decadent, backward r.c. church; but I wonder about his future. A priest from Fresno, CA urged his parishioners to vote against Prop. 8, and he was summarily defrocked. But this might be a blessing in disguise because he can work for he cause of civil and human rights for gays and lesbians without the purview of the r.c. church and thus be more effective.
I often why people stay in the r.c. church, and even in our forum we find the r.c. faithful telling us things like they "looove" the r.c. church or they might've been too hasty to leave it or if we have any "fisheaters out there" (the church forbade eating meat on Frday at one time). If they leave the r.c. church, they help weaken it, and that would be a good thing for gays and lesbians.
As to the church's hierarchy, they've always been known to engage in double talk, forked tongue, talking from both sides of their mouths, and a two-faced attitude. As this priest said, the church supposedly teaches acting on one's own conscience and having the freedom to make one's own decisions; but then again the r.c. church insinuates itself into other people's conscience (including non-catholics) and shows the hypocrisy of its teachings.

    Great video metta!

What a well composed lecture. He made a lot of good points.

I had not ever heard about this particular doctrine in the catholic church.
