I have a question that maybe some of you might be able to help with. Recently I have gotten a couple of massages and some times with in the hour of my massage ending I end up with a migraine. Now I have been to the doctor and blood pressure is fine, and so is everything else. My question is, is this normal for some?

some massages can do that to you, it just depends on how heavy of a massage you get, if this happens frequently, next time you go for one ask them to take it extra lightly on you. The loosening of your muscles can result in migraines

Drink a lot of water after the massage. Massage releases toxins from your muscle fibers that need to be flushed out so they don't build up again. Staying dehydrated will cause them to build up and cause pain.

Hey, I'm a a massage therapist. Paul is right-- drink lots of water. You're probably getting chemical headaches from the toxins being released. And if you're going to consume alcohol later? Even MORE water or the next day you will have a wicked hangover!

Most scientist say the "toxins" theory is total BS. It is usually lactic acid build up in the muscles draining. Drink water with lemon and eat an apple or two. The malic acid in apples will help metabolize the lactic acid. If you don't like apple you can buy it in pill form. Also you might be rising too fast after the massage. After it's done stay down for a few minutes. Get up slowly.
Get back to us.

When you experienced a migraine for both massages, did you have them both done by the same person? If so I'd recommend you try someone else and see if that also helps.

Whenever I have a headache I put an ice pack on the affected area. Don't know if it would work for a migraine though.
