My cousin was recently involved in a hit and run accident while he was bicycling...if anybody lives near the Finger Lakes area of New York or know anyone who does and have information please let someone know. This is important to me - so I'm using all avenues possible to get this information out here.

Here's the link to the news story: http://www.whec.com/news/stories/S2654946.shtml?cat=566

And if you don't want to read the link here's basically the same information:

On Tuesday June 5, 2012 at about 7PM 42yr old Kevin Royston was riding his bike on Town Line Rd in the Town of Rushville, Ontario County when he was struck from behind by a car. The car did not stop after he was struck and made no attempt to return to offer aid. Kevin was air lifted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY with a severely damaged left leg. As ...a result of his injuries Kevin has had his left leg amputated below the knee. There is a possibility that more of his leg could be amputated if the healing process does not go well.

Kevin was an avid cyclist who in the past has competed as an expert class cross country and down hill mountain bike racer. And every year he logs thousands of miles on his road bike. Kevin was also a competitor in motocross racing participating in several motocross races every year. This crime has left his ability to participate in these activities in doubt. Any information that may lead to the arrest of the person responsible for this crime would be appreciated by his family.

edit: There's also an $11,000 reward for information leading to the driver's arrest.

That's always sad to hear when another cyclist gets hit. I hope he recovers well and the driver gets caught.

On another note, I'v also an avid cyclist and am a Cat 2 cross country mountain bike racer. I'm also an amputee (left foot symes). I know other amputee cyclist in both mountain and road. I'm not saying it'll be easy, but it is possible. I'll also be competing again at the Extremity Games in 2 weeks and there are some serious amputee athletes there too. I know it's going to be a rough time and adjusting will seem impossible, but it can be done.

Well, if the leg doesn't heal correctly they're going to have to amputate more above the knee.....which would really hinder is cycling ability. I'm waiting to hear to see how everything goes

I hear yea and it'll be tough both physically and mentally. For what it's worth, there were a couple of above the knee guys that kicked my butt last year. I took video and these guys are very smooth riders. I hope you cousin pulls through and wish the very best for him.
