Why won't this pathetic waste of life just die already...have you ever seen anything like this? Her music sucks and she is strung out. She provides nothing to society and she is constantly in the hospital. For the sake of her family (who seem somewhat normal), she should just kill herself already?

YIKES! I sure don't wish the girl death. Obviously she's a lost soul with all kinds of fucked up going on but I hope she fights like hell to get her life together. It's funny but to hear her sing live I can't stand it but recorded stuff I have enjoyed. Her voice and style is an acquired taste for sure.

I dont think you know what you are talking about dude. She is one of the biggest talents out there; her writing and voice are great and more legitimate than most artists out there. Besides, music is down to taste. If you don't like it, dont listen to it - but wishing she died already? YOU and your stupid posts are pathetic.

She's a modern day Jimmy Hendrix destined to collapse under the weight of her own genius. Often times the most talented are the most troubled.

I understand and appreciate the metaphor, but please don't bring Jimi Hendrix down to her level. They both may have been druggies back in the day, but it was the norm for Hendrix's generation at the time, and he was immeasurably a better musician than the British one hit wonder tabloid queen. Though I have to emphasis that I don't know anything about Winehouse's genius status. If she was a genius like Shakira, than I may be able to give her a little leverage, but without the to save her, she's just another victim of her own celebrity and lifestyle.

    Shakira? Genius? Really?
When we're talking about those who are worthy to join the pantheon of musical geniuses like Hendrix, we should be speaking in terms of people who have mastered their instrument and who have the natural ability to express themselves in creatively new and brilliant ways.
I don't understand Shakira's Spanish albums, but if her English work is any indication, she is an incredibly talented artist... but I wouldn't say genius.
As for Winehouse, I would confidently assert that her music is genius (however sordid and misguided her personal life may be). A closer comparison for Winehouse than Hendrix may be Janis Joplin whose life was also pretty controversial (even when drugged out rockers were the norm). Beyond addictions, they share a talent for using words and melodies to resist the status quo and to carve out a space for widely unpopular ideas and perspectives. Even worn out premises like breakups and falling in love take on new life, new expressions and new paradigms through her songs. And if you double check the charts or listen to her albums you'll find no trace of a one hit wonder.

jsttennis77, I've seen some of her horrible live performances, but if you hunt down the ones where she's not completely cracked out you may find the live tracks are some of her best. Here's one where she's only mildly tweaking icon_confused.gif...

Don't worry, the guy doesn't have enough internal dynamite for an explosion. It'll be more like a cap gun.

It's too bad that Amy Winehouse doesn't come here because even in a crack'd out state she could outword the OP.

Its wonderful to see humanitarianism alive and well in todays world.icon_confused.gif

However, it is that sad attitude that has partly landed Amy Winehouse where she is.

Celebrity, drugs, money, the person she fell in love with, the paparazzi, media, have all pushed her into the corner that she is in, and something will eventually give, like the fact she has been diagnosed with emphasyma.

As good as she was, it will take a miracle to return her to were once she stood.

She is totally unrecognisable in voice and character now to what she showed in that clip.

I am confused by this thread: have I missed the reports of Amy Winehouse donning a pale white mask and murdering hormone-crazed babysitters?

If she and Whitney can both turn it around, all my dreams will come true. All of them. icon_smile.gif Fingers crossed.

I sincerely hope she lives. Is that too much to ask?

simmah down gentlemen. The one thing I love about music is it's completely subjective.

I'm not sure I would call Amy or Shakira genius level, but I've enjoyed both. Genius is Ben Gibbard. A lyrical genius.

Hey, if you like her then cool. If you don't, well fine you are entitled to your opinion.
But really, do you guys have to sound like little b(*es about it? Good grief! What pussies. Yeah, she has her problems but who doesn't?! People tend to blow things out of proportion, and that is especially true about celebrities. Remember, THEY ARE FnCKING HUMAN TOO! Stop being so negative!
    *Takes some deep breaths*

    I hate winners.

I am personally not the biggest fan of her music but I do not doubt that she is good. I listen to her music occasionally, especially with friends who like her and my sister.

I liked the Back to Black cd...it was different than anything else at the time. Now, Duffy and is it Adele have come along with a similar sound.

Her personal life...well, it's sad that someone has so much inner turmoil...self created or not.

I think bijockmuscle just pressons buttons because some of them are easy to press....kind of like I always wonder if that "straight" dude that was posting the other day was 100% serious, or just 50% serious and 50% yanking our balls.

LOL @ the responses. I like her music but I'm really not sure if she's gonna make it. That might sound a little bad but I don't wish death on her or anything like that and I don't sit around and hope she doesn't make it. I guess I'm just tired of seeing her at her worst. I usually don't read stories about her online anymore or look at any of her pictures. When Whitney was down and out I got tired of seeing her at her worst as well right along with everyone else that goes through drug abuse and the media covers WAY too much. She was so beautiful before when she was healthy, now I hate to see her pictures because it's saddening to see a human go through that. I'll keep my fingers crossed for her though, hopefully she'll pull through.
