I recall being a young true blue Auzzie, living in the city working at gay venues; I'm talking pre Gay Plague Era 1980/81. How we way back then used to look at America as being the Gay Mecca of the world. America via California was going to lead the way of gay advancement, and we the rest of the world, would follow.

Funny Pre Gay Plague Era we on the outside seen California as progressive, and New York as shallow and frivolous, a city that was going to take gays nowhere, other than drug out nightclubs. But.......when the hysterics of the Gay Plague Era where to hit, the gays of Cal where running around flapping their wrists demanding someone must do something, but not willing to be pro active themselves, ,if it meant their action intailed giving up perceived sexual revolutionary rights; like closing their Bathhouses to save lives. Yet we seen the gays of New York become pro active, and start to do something it was like wow, thats not what we expected to see.

But We have since seen the advancement and sexual revolution take a backward seat in California with the passing of prop8, and anti gay marriage sweeping America, where much of the world had advanced and over taken the US on gay rights issues since the 1980s.

    What happend?

Where did you all go so very wrong?

Oh this is not an opportunity to lay all the blame on Gay Republicans.

Because much of what has come to pass, also lays in the hands of gay democrats too. Like what did they do wrong that prop8 was to overwhelmingly pass in California.

So what happend in America and where did you all get it so very wrong?

Gays have equal rights and can get married in some U.S. states...in others they cannot.

    Same situation as in Europe.

But this is not recognised in most states of the US, and since Obama has left this up to the states, can you see much changing? Also I think as seen in cal gay marriage in States in America can revert, to the way it once was. I think thats why Obama left it that way; up to the States. But even in Europe gays have seen advancement in countries they did not expect.

Even in Oz we poofs have seen advancement since the 1980s, and in ways overtaken America too.

Maybe it has to be accepted that America is One Nation Under God, and God does not want this for America, and thats why we have seen advanment in Oz and other countries that America has not.

Obama doesn't get to say if it should be left to the states or not. He is merely voicing an opinion that is trying to get as many "middle Americans" onto his platform as possible. He can't say "gay marriage is legal in all states!" He can sign or veto a law that Congress puts on his desk and even that can be overturned.

Supreme Court will in all likelihood apply the 14th Amendment (Equal protection) to the states in regards to gay rights next year.

I take it all back. America is not going wrong, America is doing what it has always done: adjust to new realities that's why we rule the world. We adapt just like the founding fathers did at Boston with the little tea incident, lol.

In my state gay marriage is legal. I wouldn't get married but I can understand why it is important.
