So, if you guys didn't know....I am a photographer. Heres a random self-portrait:

    Photobucket

Anyways, I just finished a major project in the LA scene these past 3 weeks and Im still here for another week. I decided to do another shoot already, but I want it to reflect the power of the body. Thats basically the theme is "Human Power".

I would like it to feature male semi-muscular to muscular bodies in an artisticly beautiful manner.

Anyways, what do you guys think?? Any recommendations?? Thoughts for other shoots?? Care to be one of my models?? icon_smile.gif

    Very nice...
The light and dark that you have in your picture is
great...but the eye is drawn away from you and up toward the light
the same picture without the light would be 10 times better
Art in any form is taking recognizable objects and presenting them in a new and ingenious way
Body exploration is perfect for this
    Showing a man's body as a landscape....
something where you see his body but by the angle and light you make it different would be a winner icon_wink.gif

Poppycock GQ, that is a superb and worthy photo.

You have used a really interesting geometric juxtaposition and the body lighting couldn't have been a banality to achieve. I tend to like any photograph that uses the frame well (spatialism that comes from the modern movement and particularly started in Impressionist paintings). Though you must have worked a lot in photoshop the light temperature is even and exact.

As a subject you are moody without being trashy, which I personally like.

Finally, it is pretty original. I was trying to think of comparable work and I couldn't. Frankly I am tired of the body as landscape, David LaChapelle, endless Mapplethorpettes, and so forth. Your approach has a bit of fashion photography in it and the closest I can think of is Bert Stern.

Very good, very good indeed. Keep at it.

    Nice Photo.

The lightbulbs are too harsh though- they draw the eye away from the body -

Try 'boxing' the lights, and difusing them, in a deeper box so that you get the light without the glare from the bulbs - like a skylight would have...

Maybe even tilt the box a bit to get more of a shadow/surface effect...

I really like the photo. I dont find the brightness of the light distracting. To me, the light above defines a geometric space in the blackness in which the 3-D you is situated.

I agree. I think the harsh angles from the light contrast well with the smooth lines contouring your body.

You said the theme is "Human Power." Is this a piece from that collection? You said it was a "random self-portrait" so I'm thinking not. However, if it were, I like the idea of playing with "power" in terms of human strength and other forms (electricity, flowing water, strong winds, waves, etc). Hmm, this sounded better in my head... anyway, I think it could be done well.

... and because everyone's a critic, my only complaints are that the visible brand on the underwear gives it a fashion photography feel (that I wouldn't prefer, but ursa noted as a positive, so go figure), and the label on the one light bulb is distracting.

Ok well....let me give you a little more background information on the pic above. When I first came down to my dad's house for the month, they had construction going on, on the second half of the house where the garage is.

They took off the roof and when they did that, the light in the pic fell at an angle and was the only thing in the whole garage left. I dont know why it inspired me, but it did. And thats where these photos erupted from.

I like the light how it is, besides i couldnt move it, even if i wanted to. The pics came out exactly like this and photoshop was not used. icon_smile.gif

And this is not part of the collection of "Human Power" as someone already motioned about before.

But Im glad you guys think of it as a good idea!

I just need to find some people....icon_rolleyes.gif
