I thought this film was brilliant! As someone who somewhat studies film for a living, you know being an acting major and all, there was more than just kick ass action and suspense in this film. As he did in ALIEN, Ridley Scott created a sci-fi/horror film that was filled with intelligent symbolism of topics that are relevant to our time. Such as the issue with finding other 'worlds', science vs. religion, human tolerance, the list goes on! But what does everyone complain about, 'it's the same thing as alien' because there was humans getting slain, people getting pregnant but unknown beings, and other bullshit. But then, and yes I'm pulling the A-Card, when Avengers comes out we all praise that shit for being so damn amazing when it is pretty much the same shit we saw in half of the movies from the last five years! I can't with my generation!icon_rolleyes.gif

Thank You!!! Finally someone who I can agree with. I too thought it was a good movie. Very well made. The problem that most of them that complain is, I think, went to the movie expecting another Alien installment. Just because there wasn't any extended 'run for your life before the Alien bites yo ass" scene didn't make it a bad movie. The movie did answer some questions and posed a few new ones. I liked this movie.

As for Avengers, yea, I agree with that too. It was a good movie with a lot of smart dialogue with plenty of extended action scenes. I did like it and it was entertaining. But, as you said, nothing more was new than the previous collection of movies of the characters in Avengers.

Prometheus offered more to the mind where as Avengers offered more mindless entertainment.

I'm not comparing them.. that would an apples to oranges scenario.

Avengers had WAY more action than Prometheus.

I watched Avengers twice in two days (both times in 3D).

My friend and I both took a nap during Prometheus.

If by that you mean that your brain spent the entire movie and the succeeding hours and days fruitlessly trying to reconcile its inconsistencies, both internal and with the existing Alien universe, then I agree with you.

No. I just meant that the story line has something to think about. Accuracy aside. But there wasnt much to think about in Avengers. All one had to do was sit back and enjoy the action.

Too much overthinking going on about this film. It's no coincidence that my favorite line from Prometheus (if I'm quoting correctly) is - "So there really is...nothing."

That's the whole point. If I wanted intellectualism, I'd watch a documentary (which I watch many of). icon_wink.gif

I have no problem with a movie that offers tons of thrills and witty dialogue w/characters. That's what summer flicks are all about. But it seems to me that in these times the films that offer that plus mythology/symbolism and mind boggling plots gets overlooked a lot.

Remember I am speaking from at teen point of view and how I see others my age react to films.icon_wink.gif

I agree as I'm of the same opinion. I go to a movie to be entertained not educated, else I'd watch a documentary. But Prometheus wasn't attempting to educate. All I'm saying that the story line was deeper than Avengers. It wasn't a shitty movie, IMO. Avengers was good but more of the same. Where as Prometheus was a little different from the previous Alien movies.

    *Spoiler Alert*

I thought it stood alone even from the original ALIEN, but what sucks is that Alien being made in 1979 and Prometheus being in 2012 the technology is a lot better obviously, like no one has been able to have an alien abortion until now but it happened before ALIEN, its a mess lolicon_rolleyes.gif

The Avengers is naturally extremely shallow. It's formulaic, predictable, and meant to have as broad of appeal as possible. It simply can't be analysed at the same depth as a movie like Prometheus. Comparing the two is challenging and says more about what kind of movie you like than anything.

Avengers was pretty much eye candy and that was it.

Prometheus was a bit "slower" in a sense, but that's because it presented ideas, conflict, and emotions that were mostly relevant to the plot. I wished it could have been made as a HBO-type TV series so they'd have more time to delve into things. But overall, I thought the movie was great, even if it did have some holes in the story line.

see i enjoyed Avengers, but Prometheus was WAYYYY more interesting to me (and it had charlize theron).

in my opinion, Avengers was only successful because of Iron Man....without him, the movie would've been so average.

Prometheus has the tension i want from a movie, and the thrill to keep me hooked.

I didn't bother to read any of the post before this one, but wasn't this film supposed to be a prequel for Alien all along?

I thought Prometheus was at best okay. It seemed to drag in parts for me. The scientific and logical inconsistencies were pretty glaring. I did think it was better than just some non-stop action or special effects movie. At the same time I think he could have done a lot better with story consistency and moving it along. Do I recommend people see it? Yes. Do I recommend people wait to see it at home and save a boat load of money? YES!!!!

Avengers? Please! I'm not shelling out $15 to see that kind of crap. That's the perfect candidate for in home entertainment.

I liked Prometheus! Did the opening scene remind you of a Tool video? It did for me. I want to know what happens next!

    The Engineers were, pretty hot..

As beautiful as it was it really lacked any kind of central conflict. Ridley Scott built new worlds but he forgot to bring compelling characters and plot along. The only character that shows any thought, reflection or emotion over whats going on is the android. People die for no reason other than to meet the body count quota. Its a movie that had so much potential but it never gets off the ground.

Also, when running away from a falling spaceship. Run to the side instead of trying to outrun the length of it!

Im a huge super hero fan looked forward to an Avengers movie since I was a kid and while I liked the movie, it didnt wow me, it did nothing wrong but it was so safe and like every other superhero movie.

I was never a huge Alien fan and wasnt exactly psyched to see Prometheus but saw it yesterday and to me it was so much better than the Avengers...it actually had believable and scary violent scenes not just a whole bunch of special effects boring action like the Avengers. The movie was more intelligent as well. Maybe its comparing apples and oranges but I cant comprehend why the Avengers is so successful. Why are people seeing it more than once, it the same shit we have seen. I think people are caught up in the Avatar/Titanic thing where they have to feel they are part of a cultural trend and act like sheep.

If only a superhero movie could be done like Prometheus....and you know what they have...the last Batman movie was and hopefully the next one is. I like my movies with a darker edge. Avengers had a bloated cast, Rober Downeys one trick act as Iron Man is absolutely a turnoff for me.

I think thats what helped me as well. I read all the whining about it and went in with lowered expectations.

I suggest that you see it keeping in mind what the movie is about. But don't draw any expectations from the previous movies. As well as expect it it be a different movie than the usual Alien movies.
