I used to love "mainstream" country but don't listen to it much these days. Honestly, Carrie Underwood partly ruined it for me. To me, country is about soul, and I just feel that her singing is soulless and they play her ad nauseum on the radio, so I shut it off. Don't get me wrong, she's got a good (not great) voice. Her performance of How Great Thou Art was phenomenal, but outside of that…nothing.

I do love Sugarland and Lady Antebellum, though. And Little Big Town and Allison Krauss.

Lucinda Williams takes them all down, though.

Emmylou and Dolly are goddesses. I really can't listen to 90% of what is being played on country music stations these days. Unless I'm in Texas. Texas country is in a different category.

LOL, I'm not even sure what qualifies as country anymore because things I've passively heard didn't sound much different from mainstream pop, rock, and alternative except with exaggerated Southern drawls.

Phosphorescent, I guess, are country. He's done an album of Willie Nelson covers: -

Weirdly, I was listening to this song tonight.

Not a major country fan otherwise, but Johnny Cash/Dolly Parton have done classic records, in my opinion.

I don't own a lot of country music. Most of the stuff I do have are the classics: Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson. I do like the Mavericks, Dierks Bently, and Alison Krauss as well.

I know who they are. My old roommate, Charla Corn, did a duet with them called 'Good Night for Dancing.' That is CRAZY that you know who they are.

Country music makes me want to get drunk on beer and run my truck into a tree at full speed.

Fortunately I no longer own a truck.
