Happy Summer, boys! NPR has compiled a playlist of the most popular summer songs from 1962 to the present, and put them in a random playlist. A lot of amazing music here (and some really cheesy crap, too)... I've been listening all morning. Check it out!

1975: The Captain & Tennille, "Love Will Keep Us Together"

When this song hit that summer, no one had ever heard of her or him or them. But suddenly it was fucking everywhere, and damned catchy too.

^^ That made the list! Yes, I remember it as a kid. My sister had the album... played it endlessly.

The list is not based on "best," but on chart position/album sales at the time. The article itself states it's not a perfect science. I thought there were some glaring omissions too, and some absolute shite, but there were also some really great tunes.

I don't know if it was originally released in the summer or not but Kung Fu Fighting is my personal summer song. When I was lifeguarding at a water park one summer they played music that was on a continuous loop so about every four or five hours the same music replayed. Every time Kung Fu Fighting played one of the other lifeguards and I would jump down from our chairs and do our Kung Fu Fighting dance. He was Funky Billy Chin and I was Little Sammy Chung. We got kind of famous for that dance in water park circles. Some kids probably drowned while we were dancing but it was fun.

I always have a summer jam, I can't think of a favorite right now. As for this summer, its lookin' like "Call Me Maybe", or "Payphone". Haha, don't judge me.
