I am going to be in Atlanta next week-First time visit. So what is a good hangout bar for Sunday and Monday nights. I will have some free time and wouldn't mind a cold beer or 2 somewhere. Any suggestions for a good gay bar for people watchin and talkin? Im staying downtown and prefer to stay somewhat close since i won't have a car. Thanks in advance.

That's going to depend on what type of crowd you like and what kind of atmosphere you are looking for.

Lots of gayness around the piedmont park area. I go to joes on Juniper sometimes. It's a gay bar/restaurant that gets packed on the weekends.

Just looking for a hangout bar i guess. Doesn't have to be clubby. Just a place i can have a few beers, admire the views and chat. Patio bar would be cool too i guess if there are any. I heard Blakes gets a big sunday night crowd?

Bars close at 12 on Sunday nights. Gilberts will be your best bet for lounging around with a drink and watching passerby's, but Blakes is very popular with the younger crowd. Joe's was my regular spot, and have a great patio.

You should stay in midtown as the downtown scene is quite sketchy and if you don't work downtown or plan on going to an event at Phillips Arena, there isn't really much to do.

Checkout Blakes (bar), Joes on Juniper (restaurant/bar), and/or Burkharts, all are in midtown. Good luck and have fun!!

You want to go to Blakes. It's good for hanging out, having a beer and talking to folks on nights like Sunday and Monday. It's very casual.

Joe's on Juniper is a fun restaurant, but on weeknights they do trivia or movie nights. It's probably not what you're looking for.

My favorite for many years has been The Heretic on Cheshire Bridge. I believe they now close on Sunday. Saturday night is a "coded" night where you will have to take that shirt off -- provided you even wear one to the place -- to access the dance floor and a secondary bar. You will get lots of attention with that body.

If you are looking for a less"hyper-male" location I'd suggest Blakes, but it seems to me you are more of The Heretic type.

For a strip joint try Richard's on North Avenue to the northwest of Georgia Tech.

    Have fuin.

(Too damn bad they closed Texas Drilling.)
