Yes, looks really good. I was worried that it would focus more on the "love story" aspects. Early interviews with the cast and director seemed to focus on that, and the director referring to it as a "romantic comedy." But, the Tom Riddle scenes looked really eery and disturbing, so hopefully the dark aspects will get the right attention.

Well I wont ruin it for people who don't read the books and might not know but having read the book I don't get where any off them got off saying its a romantic Comedy. Anything but. I cried my effing eyes out to this book. A major Character dies in this movie it's sad

I love all the books, although the movies don't stay too true to them, they are good and entertaining for what they are.

There is something about a guy that can get emotional reading a book that is very sexy.

It should be interesting how #6 in the Harry Potter series transfers to the big screen. The last movie seemed choppy to me perhaps because the book was so long and in order to keep the movie from going to 4 hours they needed to do some serious editing.

My favourite movie so far is "The Goblet of Fire" (it was my favourite book as well). The ending was amazing, and very emotional as well.

Just confirms my belief that who we find attractive is very unpredictable. Voldemort sexy? Well to each his own. I don't even find the actor Ralph Fiennes sexy. Now his brother on the other hand ...

I think that the way the 6th book was written will make it easier to create into a movie without having that shitty, abrupt transition feeling of the last one.

I love this series, both the books and the movies. I agree that the Order of the Phoenix was weak, choppy, and depended too much on "inside knowledge." By that I mean that the director and screenwriter left many connections between the scenes out...and unless you read the book, much of it did not make sense.

I also thought that Order of the Phoenix was getting too much like a generic action movie, and lost a lot of the magic.

Speaking of which, I know I'll be in the minority on this one, but my favorite movie of the series was the first. I think finding out about that world was magical, pun intended. The first time you see Diagon Alley....geez, that was like my first trip to Disneyland when I was a kid.

Also, in my opinion Richard Harris captured the look and feel of Dumbledore, while Michael Gambon was miscast. But this is a minor criticism.

This movie, and this series, is so good, it was painful to watch some of the wannabes, like Narnia and The Golden Compass.

I still remember seeing the main hall of Hogwarts at Halloween...with all those jack-o-lanterns hovering....what atmosphere! I am looking forward to the next movie, and will be sad when the last is done, as I was when I read the last book.

Oh. One other point. John Williams wrote the music for the first three movies. Patrick Doyle and Nicholas Hooper composed the music for the last two movies.

The music scores for the last two movies suffer by comparison with Williams' ingenious scores, in my opinion.

Richard Harris was the best Dumbledore. It's ashame we only got to see him in two movies. He truely brought the book character to life.

Micheal Gambon is much to cold to play Dumbledore. The one thing Dumbledore could always do was keep his cool in life or death situations... Micheal Gambon's Dumbledore always seems like hes ready to fly of the handle at any given moment.

Since I've only read up until The Order Of The Phoenix... the whole movie will be new to me. I aim to grab a copy of the book first though.

In general, I like the books more than the movies. Some things don't match up. Like I'm friggin annoyed at how the Dementors can fly in the movies when they're actually only able to glide in the books.

I could be wrong because it's been a while... but I think Dementors fly in the 6th and 7th book.

Yes, that happens after a lot of other things happen, and yes it's another really dark, impactfull moment. But, there's the Ron romance that has a lot of laughs (I found that part of the book more annoying, but I'm sure the tweens and teens enjoyed it.). I'm just glad that with how dense this book is with important events and information that the trailer, at least, focuses on those elements. This book could very easily be two movies just like they're going to do with Deathly Hallows.

I didn't read the books until after I saw Goblet of Fire on cable. I'd seen the other movies in the theater with Potter fans, but it never captivated me. But, then when I saw how dark Goblet became, I was hooked. I saw Order of the Phoenix in the theaters when it came out the following week and started reading the books a day or two later, reading all seven in about a month. I'm glad I didn't have to wait years between books.

Well since I've never read both, I can't say. But... were those two written after the Azkaban movie? Maybe JKR was influenced LOL.

The one scene in the movies that really annoys me was the Quidditch match scene in the Prisoner Of Azkaban movie. I had read the book before seeing the movie and I remember the feeling of being cheated when I saw the dementors flying around with Harry in the game instead of merely floating in a group nearby as I had visualized already from the books.

P.S. I'm one of the people who started reading Harry Potter BEFORE even the first HP movie came out. I wonder if people like that feel the same way about the movie adaptations.

My problem with Gambon's Dumbledore is that he plays the character too "human". He get's emotional at the drop of the hat, and slides around like quicksilver almost as much as Radcliffe's Harry.

In the books, however, he's so unworldly aloof, calm, and quirky that whenever he DOES show real human emotion, it's damn powerful. I don't think I'm going to be able to get into Dumbledore's storyline in the films as much as I did in the books.

And for the record, Order of the Pheonix was both my favourite film and book. I realize full-well that the film's story was not executed as well/fluently as it was for Prisoner of Azkaban, but the character works, score, cinematography, and overall feel of movie five really "did it" for me. And I actually liked their portrayal of Ginny (my favourite character) better in the film than how she was done in book five. Reducto, bitch.

And Nicholas Hooper has been my favourite composer for these films so far. His theme for "The Flight of the Order of the Pheonix" is one of my favourite pieces in all film score. I liked John Williams in film one, but after that I'm rather "meh" to "bleh" about his work in films two and three (with the exception of his "Fawkes" theme: gorgeous). All in all, not a big fan of Williams--I know, sacrilige.

Loved it. Thanks for the teaser. Ever since I saw Order (which quickly led to my purchasing all seven books and reading them in 12 days) I have been cringing with anticipation for Half-Blood. Every book touched me, and I know for this one I'm bringing a box of Kleenex. For Hallows, I'll bring two boxes.

I must admit when I re-read the books I had Richard Harris's portrayal going through my mind. The only other actor I could see in this role is Ian McKellan, but he is too well known for Gandalf. However, it would have been fitting having a gay actor portraying a gay character!

I'd be more excited if they weren't taking out large chunks of the story, and adding in some new scenes not in the book. Seems kinda pointless to me...

That and I don't like the current director.

EDIT: Woah, that was negative. I'll be seeing this at midnight when it comes out, I'm sure.

From start to finish we'll have seen Daniel Radcliffe grow from a young boy to an adult actor by the time all of this is over. Not many actors will be able to boast of having done that (with the exception of his cohorts in the same movies of course).

How successful is that? Boy some people are so lucky.

After looking at some of the other directors who were offered/considered for the project, I'm quite happy with Yates. Though del Toro or Mira Nair probably would have put an interesting spin on the series that I'd have liked to see attempted.

It's interesting to see the range of opinions here! For instance, some are saying that Michael Gambon is too cold as Dumbledore, while others say he's too emotional. :-)

As for me... Well, I got into the books shortly before the first movie was released, and got completely hooked. Since then, I've read each new book within one or two days of its publication. My favorite books in the series are Book 4, The Goblet of Fire, and Book 7, The Deathly Hallows. The following is all in my own humble opinion...

My favorite movie is still the 3rd one, "Prisoner of Azkaban". The first two movies were all surface... slavishly reproducing every detail of the books but none of the charm. But Alfonso Cuarón is a genius, and he brought to the 3rd film the magic, humor and warmth that the series had been missing. Instead of being obsessively faithful to the *letter* of the book, he captured the *spirit* of it, while also adding his own personal touch and making it more cinematic.

Also, I love Michael Gambon as Dumbledore, he's perfect. He has the twinkle in his eye. Richard Harris was a fine actor, but I didn't feel his heart was in the role. Then again, he might have been better with a more creative director.

While Yates is not Cuarón, I think he did a good job with Order of the Phoenix, particularly in the final scenes. It helps that the regular cast has improved in their acting ability with each film. I liked it better on the second viewing. It's always hard seeing a movie based on a book you've read; it makes you more critical. Like others here, I did think the film was "choppy" or that it might be confusing; yet, people I saw it with who hadn't read the book seemed to follow along just fine. It seems reasonable to hope that Yates will improve with the next film just like the actors did.

Bottom line, I feel that movies and books are different, and when you adapt a book into a film, it's more important to make it a GOOD FILM than to be 100% faithful to the book.

Just my opinion. :-)

PS: It's a shame about Golden Compass... the second two books in the trilogy are far better than the first, and it looks now like they won't get made into films, partly because the first film wasn't that good and partly because of all the religious protests. But if you like Harry Potter, or science fiction with some fantasy thrown in, or anything SUBVERSIVE, I recommend you check the books out.

Completely agree with your love of the final scenes. The one tracking shot through the battle in the Arch room is one of my favourite shots in all of film.

What's sad is that the film did quite well outside of the domestic market. If nothing else, the cast alone carried this movie and I don't understand why it didn't do well in the US (maybe there wasn't enough Daniel Craig: well that's not a maybe, that movie needed more Daniel screen time ).

Oh and Order of the Phoenix was a bad movie because Order of the Phoenix was a bad book. I'm sure they dreaded the task of making that one.

I'M PISSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOS ANGELES - Warner Bros. says it's bumping "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" from its planned November release into next summer.

The sixth installment in the blockbuster franchise about boy wizard Harry now will open July 17 rather than Nov. 21, the studio said Thursday.

Studio President and Chief Operating Officer Alan Horn says the studio has had success with past summer "Harry Potter" releases, including the fifth movie. Horn also says the Writers Guild of America strike had "impacted the readiness of scripts for other films — changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of."
