Hey guys, as you've probably seen on the other thread about the August 9th hike that Gigadu/Gigaram is organizing, I'm organizing a kayak trip in Brookfield, Mass. on Saturday, August 16th. We'll meet at White's Landing which is just north of Sturbridge, Massachusetts (near the intersection of the Massachusetts Turnpike and I-84 out of Hartford) for some kayaking on the Quaboag River. It's supposed to be one of the most scenic trips in Massachusetts. They do have rentals for those without kayaks, and we should be able to do some great flatwater paddling.

I'm pretty sure that I know of three of us who will be going. Who else is up for it?

If I'm not already among those three, count me in. I can't make it on the 9th.

As soon as I know about one commitment after this weekend, I'll know if I can go since the only other hurdle was the availability of a rental. Yeah!

Just FYI guys: I'm going off on vacation today, and will be back late next week, so if you email me, I might not be able to respond.

I'm willing to contribute to get you there. As I have my own kayak, I don't have to pay, so I can add a little to the kitty. Anyone else?

Also, I figure that we'd probably meet around 11 a.m. at White's Landing. Who else is up for it?

It looks like a go for me since I didn't totally collapse after the hike with Gigadu last weekend.

True that! That's probably what had me at the death march pace more than anything!

Great. So we've got a few guys and some contributions to the "Get DiverScience Kayaking" Scholarship Fund, so I hope he decides to grace us with his company. Anyone else?
I promise I'll bring bug spray and won't be too much of a slave driver (as much as my Scandinavian heritage may bring out the viking row master ;-)

Wish we could join you. We're over in Catskill, NY (about 2 and a half hours away) working frantically on our new house in the time I have before I need to take off for Florida to start rehearsals on the 26th so no free time these days. Have a great time. Won't be back in the area till mid-October, but I'll keep my eyes peeled for future events.

Yeah, flights to Boston can't that expensive, and I'm sure there are a few New England RJers who will be more than happy to put you up for the evening. You've still got time!

So! Thanks to the wonderful MikeOnMain, and thanks to the lovely folks at Continental for giving me the tickets, this Tiger is coming kayaking too!

Hurrah! I'm excited!

Guess what guys! I'm in! The husband has graciously agreed to pick up my little brother - I had thought he was working but he's got the day off.

Great Gig! It'll be good to finally meet you since I bagged out on the hike. I don't have the stomach flu anymore!

Here's are some thoughts for Saturday (since I'm getting some questions about it):

* Meet at 11 a.m. at White's Landing in Brookfield, Massachusetts. We'll get the rentals and all that out of the way for those that are renting.
*Bring with you sunscreen, a hat, sandals that you don't mind stepping in the water with, filled water bottles, a camera, and some food to munch on. You can get hungry while kayaking!
* We'll be doing downstream to start, so I would assume that we should do about 40 minutes downstream, and it will probably take 1:20 to get back. We'll see how fast the river is. I was figuring that a 2 hour trip was probably sufficient, but if we're feeling good and guys aren't overwhelmed, we can extend that.
*Afterwards, we can find a place to get a bite to eat. I figure we'll be done by the latest 3 p.m.

Note: we've had many offers to contribute to the DiverScience Kayak Fund. Please feel free to add you contribution if needed. Remember when you were a poor student!

See you all on Saturday. If we've got a last minute person to come along, I'll try to check my account here before I leave (probably about 9:15 a.m. or so.)

So I am coming after all, and since this I am not American, this must count as the first *international* RJ meetup. Hazzah!

To say that yesterday's outing was fun was a big understatement! I had a great time and was so happy to actually meet a number of guys that I've come across here.

Now just to get the incriminating pictures to post.

Hey, boys

Hope y'all didn't get drenched or struck by lightning (it got pretty wild for about a half hour over in Catskill). With luck, we'll be able to join you on another excursion come next spring.

Yep - email address has been sent out and I've got the album on Webshots ready to go.

As for paintball - beginning my research now!
