    The part of the law the justices upheld requires police officers stopping someone to make efforts to verify the person’s immigration status with the federal government.

    The conservaposse is claiming in another thread that the SCOTUS upheld the law. In their dreams, though they do copy & paste very well the same arguments being made in extreme right-wing sites. And the remaining provision is being challenged in other court actions.

    The US had a weak argument on that aspect before the SCOTUS, because it couldn't yet claim profiling due to a Federal court injunction that prevented its implementation, shortly after the AZ bill was passed. There have been some claims of profiling from other States, which will form a basis for challenging this remaining provision as the cases wind their way through the courts.

    The part of the law upheld will be challenged by lower courts. Analysts are saying that civil rights groups may file an injunction against the provision and tie the provision up in court system with numerous cases of racial profiling.

    Not a good day for supporters of the law!

    Amazing that the fox news loonies are trying to spin this as a win! As crazy as it sounds, they think having the law struck down by the SCOTUS and one provision that will be tied up in the court system for infinity is a win! Lol

    Kinda like scott walker winning the recall but losing the senate in WI was a win for Repubs too!

    Provisions struck down:

    One making it a crime for an illegal immigrant to work or to seek work in Arizona;
    One which authorized state and local officers to arrest people without a warrant if the officers have probable cause to believe a person is an illegal immigrant;
    And one that made it a state requirement for immigrants to register with the federal government.

    I'm not talking about the Immigration law in AZ. That will be resolved eventually. I am talking about Wisconsin. The country is fucked up enough, have to worry about my home state first.

    It all ties in together. WI isnt isolated from the rest of the US. If it was, nobody would give a shit.

    Bottom line: Supreme ct ruling says federal govt should deal with immigration not the states. Fed law trumps state law.

    I heard on the news this morning that they can no longer ask for legal status when being pulled over for another violation.

    Now the news says that they CAN ask for legal status when pulled over for another violation.

    So.......which is it?
