Cindy McCain - What's the Deal?

Why is she always at McCain's side? She is literally at every single event with him. Is it to remind him to be sure he has his dentures in? (That was a joke).
Seriously, I find her to be border-line scary. She is very Stepford wife-like. She is not a very impressive speaker. She also always makes me think of his first wife, whom he ditched and picked up with Cindy while he was still married.
I just find it odd. I wonder if I am alone?

    You mean THIS Cindy McCain?

An Excerpt from Cliff Schecter's book The Real McCain?

"Three reporters from Arizona, on the condition of anonymity, also let me in on another incident involving McCain's intemperateness. In his 1992 Senate bid, McCain was joined on the campaign trail by his wife, Cindy, as well as campaign aide Doug Cole and consultant Wes Gullett. At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain's hair and said, "You're getting a little thin up there." McCain's face reddened, and he responded, "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt." McCain's excuse was that it had been a long day. If elected president of the United States, McCain would have many long days."

    That one?

McCain is so funny! Probably even more incompetent than Bush ( can you say Scandenavia?) icon_lol.gif

What a horror show we'd have if he manages to get elected. icon_biggrin.gif

    But really...

Maybe she's always at McCain's side because she's his WIFE? Hmmmmm, that makes sense. Although I TOTALLY agree with you on the Stepford-wife thing.

Perhaps she's a supportive and devoted wife. She certainly is attractive.
Since she's a successful businesswoman and humanitarian, she doesn't fit the "Stepford Wife" mold.

You know, I think you all would have to agree that my dislike of Republicans is probably one of the strongest of anyone on RJ. I think the ones who don't belong in jail belong mostly in mental institutions.

    But---

I am really uncomfortable with the business of hatin' on the spouses and children. I feel bad for Laura Bush when she gets dumped on because of her idiot spouse. I feel bad for Cindy McCain whose only sin (as far as I can tell) is to have married that soulless faker. And my disgust for Rush Limbaugh really developed NOT because of his inane politics but years ago when he made fun of the way Chelsea Clinton looks (which McCain did also.)

Seriously. Did Chelsea choose to be the child of political parents? Did Cindy honestly believe her dolt was going to run and be nominated for president? Did Laura ever imagine thirty years ago that her alcoholic shmuck wouldn't have died of liver failure by now?

    No? Then leave them alone.

    JP -

Here, here! Let's leave the politics of personal destruction behind. Then maybe politicians can talk about the issues.

Well, truth be told, Cindy did know she was dating a married man when they met. And for that matter when they married. Technically, John was a bigamist. I think in Republican circles that makes her a ________. You can fill in the blank. But, all this forgivable with the party of morals and family values.

Jake, about the loving wife at his side thing, it is unheard of in presidential politics for the wife to be at every campaign stop with their spouse. The normal course of events is for the spouse to go out on their own and campaign alone. That is why the spouse will have their own staff - advance people, press secretary, etc. This is not the case with Cindy.

It amazes me that the left has to find fault with every republican..... Cindy has had her problems, from being addicted to being resentful early on in her husbands transfer from the navy to politics when she was roundly criticized for not supporting her husband..... and the book quote is unsubstantiated.....

now she is being pillored because her family is wealthy, and she is supporting her husband by being by his side.... would you all lay off of her.... she comes from the school where you stand next to her husband... is that always the case with all polititians/?? geee havent heard much of Michelle Obama since she made those first time in my life comments.....

And speaking of hatin' on the spouses...

What evidence does anyone have that Michelle Obama is "bitter and entitled"? I mean, that's just more right-wing smear shit. Listen, if I can be nice about Laura Bush, y'all can just shut up about Michelle Obama.

She's a good republican wife. She sits and gazes adoring at her husband from the side lines and has only those opinions she's been told she has. Either that or she's too smart to open her mouth.

Cindy McCain, has faults as well all do. Some corrections to past comments. She was not married to John when he was in the Navy, she dated him later when he was a Congress man from Arizona. She started a Charity to assist children in other nations and then stole drugs from that organization. We all have feet of clay. Her wealth kept her out of jail for that action. She is not a Business woman she is a trust fund baby living well off a family business. She did adopt a child from India thur Mother Terasea orpanage a fact thatKarlRove used against McCain in SC during the 2000 Primaries

Not to hijack the thread, but I think Laura Bush is doing a tremendous job, despite her "liability". I would vote for her before Hillary, Obama, McCain,.... any day. She is for children and education first. That's our future.

Really... like what? No Child Left Behind? Seriously... the only thing she's done is sit around and be Bush's beard while he continually grinds women's rights into the ground.

It appears to me there are several women who stand by their man for the sake of being the "first lady", whether it be infidelity, verbal abuse or simply doing nothing at all.

I don't really have anything to say about her one way or the other -- she's not running for office.

A bigger story is how John McCain sh*t-canned his first wife, who carried the torch for him while he was a POW, to marry someone young and rich. The motives are understandable, but hardly 'family values'. Sheesh!

You know, this is really distasteful.

Cindy is not running for any office. You can hardly expect her NOT to be supportive.

If it was disgusting to make fun of Hillary and Chelsea, and revolting to attack Michelle, why are we gleefully doing it to Cindy?

Wendy Gramm would be another story entirely, since the evil she does, she does of her own accord. By all means attack the ridiculous bot called Liddy Dole, she is an officeholder and has more or less asked for it.

These other people--Laura, Cindy, Michelle, Chelsea--they didn't ask for this to be their lives. Come on!

I even hated when they went after Nancy Reagan and Pat Nixon, and their husbands were actually Satan's helpers.

I think Cindy McCain is a class act, and if you know anything about her at all you wouldn't be dissing her in a lame RealJock thread. She's a humanitarian, and a successful business woman. She has flaws like everyone else. Get use to it, cuz she very well may be the next first lady.
