Hey guys I will be making a business trip to Tampa, Florida for 6 weeks starting the first week of August. I have never been... Show me a good time? Love beach volleyball, a night on the town, or anything outdoors and adventures! :-)

Make sure you hit up Clearwater beach. I'm sure the locals avoid it but who cares its gorgeous and its great for people watching, volleyball, dining.

Agree. South of Clearwater Beach in the community of Sand Key (and in other locations around the area), is an awesome restaurant, Columbia. The food is wonderful....

Will you have a car? I haven't spent all that much time in Tampa, although I have flown in and out of there since the flights out of Orlando often have a "Disney" premium. I would think the beaches would be among the most exciting things to do. It will be hot and humid, and watch out for the snakes and alligators. This is of course coming from someone who doesn't usually get very excited at the thought of Florida ;).

I'm sure there are people who are more familiar who will hopefully chime in and help out. If you venture to Orlando, I can probably help more.

Not many snakes and gators in Tampa. That is far more south near the Everglades. Watch out for the jelly fish. The warm waters attract them.

Do you know where you'll be staying? If you can get set up in Hyde Park, Channelside or Ybor City, you will be closer to some fun spots.

When I lived in Tampa I'd drive to Miami when I wanted exciting nightlife.

Second Clearwater beach and the DalĂ museum if you're into art. If you're looking for bars and clubs, go to Ybor and SoHo. If you have a couple days worth of free time and don't mind a road trip, consider going to St. Augustine if you haven't been there before. Nice place to spend a day or two if you're into historical sites.

There are museums in Sarasota that are also wonderful. Ringling art museum is great.
