Changing face of RJ

Interesting point had a few conversations with fellow RJers and there seems to be a common feeling of being edged out and ignored by the 'New majority".
I kind of get that vibe too from the new prolific posters, are they getting paid per post? lol. Some have been here less than a month and have 1500 plus posts, how does anyone have that sort of time?
Its almost like they aren't interested in health sport and well being at all and more about regular gay guy stuff, not a bad thing just available on other sites geared towards the standard hook up and fashion stuff, which kind of ruins the whole concept of RJ

Anyway wondered how some of you have found this site has morphed over the months or years you've been coming here.

Learn to type faster, and don't type novels.

TheGuyNextDoor saidThe threads have changed a lot since 2007 when I joined RJ.
Threre used to be a lot of really intelligent men here with great bods.
Many of them left over time when the Anduru's and haters arrived and kinda sucked the air out of the threads. Then came the trolls and negative bickering.
They moved on and left a few of us behind.
Oh well, such is the life of any free public website.
The trolls move in, and the intellects move out.

I noticed that looking back at the older threads there is a very different perspective offered. I guess you're right its free and anyone can post what they like. I wonder though if this happens with all sites, the original intent gets lost over time

Yes, it does. That's why I haven't been on modelmayhem.com forums in months. I still hold one of the highest post counts there (almost 50K), but got burned out with the non-pro newbs acting like they know the industry as much as people who've been in it for years.

...not to mention the new admin/moderators suck ass and know nothing about photography or modeling.

Post counts don't mean anything. It's pretty easy for new members to rack up post counts if all of their replies are a few words/quips. Or if they participate in the endless inter-thread flirting and circle jerking. icon_lol.gif

Say whaaaat?!?! Don't worry I'm hilarious.

Buuut seriously, this doesn't surprise me. Internet access is readily available, the site has gained more notoriety, and it is simple to join and post in. It is a perfect breeding ground for trolls and obnoxious nut jobs.

Duh. http://www.encyclopediadramatica.se/ModelMayhem - it's categorized as a shock site, for crying out loud

Hmmm. I would like to think that some of us relative newbies have some intellect to contribute. icon_wink.gif

You can't go back in time with these things. I have posted on flyertalk since the late 90s. It used to be a small, close knit group. Now it's a huge, over-moderated, kind of soulless place, with few of the original members hanging around.

I've been here almost a year now, and the "popular kids" have changed several times since I've been here. The site seems to ebb and flow. It's never been primarily about fitness since I've been here. I've tried to get conversations started, but they fail. It's a chaotic place, but that seems to be how the admin wants it.

Aren't you that dude in NOVA who co-created one of the biggest social threads on here? I wouldn't say you've failed at starting conversations...

I've only been here for about 2 months... Everything seems the same from my perspective. It does sound like I might have missed some good times...

That's my only successful thread, and it has nothing to do with fitness, which is what my comment was in reference to.

Ok, I see... I haven't seen a lot of fitness talk around here myself as I usually hang around the "all things gay" forum. Which I suppose is the point of having separate forums...

Dude so? This is the "All Things Gay" section.... seems pretty clear cut to me. All, from what I understand, means everything.

There are tons of other sections here related specifically to fitness. The questions asked there, albeit asked far too repetitively, are generally geared towards fitness.

The "All Things Gay" area is usually the most active area because it's so general. The fitness related areas are usually much more quiet. Occasionally, a fitness thread will have a good discussion going, but it usually doesn't last long.

On the other hand, how much can we really discuss fitness? The questions about fitness are usually ones that have been asked many times before. The chit-chat that goes is normal, and if there was something more interesting to talk about, then people probably would.
