Dude, enough already. Pride has become nothing more than a cyclone of obnoxious losers posing as shallow porn stars in diapers. If the drg queens from Stonewall knew what mess they were creating they probably would have quit and closed that closet door. Jesus.

What a mess? Marriage equality, housing equality, employment equality, hate crime legislation, and so much more.

Life for gays now is infinitly better than it was decades ago because people like them stood up in the face of society and authority without shame.

I've no doubt the same debate existed then but in a different context. The many closeted "normal" blue collar masculine gays were probably ashamed of the drag queens and trans people they felt only served to solidify pre-existing stereotypes of gays which didn't apply to them.

I find it terrifying there's so much self loathing here. This is my first year on a gay forum so I don't know if this much internalized homophobia rears its ugly head every summer but all these pride threads are depressing. I'm really shocked so many gay men still hate themselves so much and its really sad.

Thanks Metta for posting the link (and all political issues) This is what gay pride means and it's an excellent documentary for those who aren't familiar with the Stonewall Uprising, or better yet, for those who never even heard of it but revel in the pride festivities held each year.

wow. i didn't even know about Stonewall. It's hard to realize that not even that long ago police in cities "tracked homosexuals"

We have some extreme cases here. Just because everyone doesn't jump all over them, doesn't mean we agree with them. We just see how they consistently post stuff that makes our eyes roll and adjust the amount of credibility we give.

Although it's a kind of lazy way to deal with it, if you compare it to the mobilization and non-complacency the people in the Stonewall riots demonstrated.

Well, as the older gay men, we're the story tellers and record keepers. If we want to see the younger gays enlightened by the history behind who they are, then lets share it with them.

Fun bar. Caught their movie night back in April when they were playing The Muppet Movie. Bartender made the ex and I some fresh popcorn, and gave us extra M&M's on top icon_smile.gif.

Oh...... right. The riots, gay history, etc etc.

Nicely put, uoft23. smartmoney's bizarre reference to "shallow porn stars in diapers" makes me wonder if this outburst is not in response to diapers, but to a case of diaper rash.

I will refrain (for now) from making hundreds of the kinds of comments I am oh-so-well-known for.

Suffice it to say... if you spend all of your time on your knees in the middle of a cyclone ALL you will see is the debris. Try standing up and looking at the rest of the landscape.

    K?

    Brilliant.
Hackneyed and played out, but then, pretty sure you get mail addressed way.
More importantly I do not consider myself jaded and in the end, that's all that matters since you can't be bothered to offer any sort of informed opinion.

well...it's not NEARLY as interesting as YOUR life in NJ -- hell, the Paramus Mall is where it's AT dude!!!!

Keep in mind...if it weren't for that "lore" guys like you wouldn't be on Gay websites in the middle of the night ogling Men in their underwear.

I don't consider you to be jaded either...that would indicate a certain amount of worldliness...no...yer not...at ALL.

what exactly does "pretty sure you get mail addressed way" even mean????

Now AD possums, don't go forgetting your own dark past, and how you looked down on homosexuals as being dirty and beneath you, it was not just the working class butch blokes, it was bisexuals such as your self too, who hid behind skits until my younger generation made a real diffrence.

Also many of those drag queens could of been from blue collar backgrounds too.

What I think Smartmoney has illuminated here is the inconvenient truth that many even within the gay community do not relate to these pride events in any way, nor do they even want to. I'm not judging either way, only making the point that we have a great big divide within the gay community, so it's no wonder we have somewhat of a P.R. problem with the public at large, and why things like getting "gay marriage" passed are an uphill battle that fail more often than not.

It's not even just the young'uns. A 34-year-old in this thread admitted he doesn't know about Stonewall (at least he's honest).
