Oops -- 2006 video surfaces of Romney saying health insurance individual mandate is "ESSENTIAL"

Yet another example of Mitt Romney taking all sides of an issue depending on who he is speaking with at the moment. He has no core beliefs other than raking in dollars for himself.

What is also exposed here is that the Republicans have shifted so far to the right, they scream "Socialism" at things that were Conservative positions just a few years ago. Obama himself would have fit in perfectly with the GOP of a few years ago but Republicans now claim he is a Communist.

    More from the NY Times:
In crafting the Affordable Care Act, President Obama and his Democratic allies argued that the individual mandate — originally an idea put forth by conservatives — was a key part of broadening the financial risks for insurance companies and lowering the costs for the insured.

In the video released Wednesday night, Mr. Romney appears to share that view, at least as it relates to the Massachusetts plan.

The individual mandate, Romney said, “is essential for bringing the health care costs down for everyone and getting everyone the health insurance they need.

Doesn't matter. Will impact people as much as Obama sitting in Rev Wright's church mattered to people. What is relevant now is Romney has vowed to work to repeal the current law. All that matters.

Romney basically lost the election today. If you think he's going to run on repealing, I hope you're right because it would be political suicide.

...I've seen posts here from some conservative posters that even though Romney appears to be against gays marrying he won't do anything about it once he gets in, because he's merely pandering to voters, so it's OK to vote for him.
The same logic could be applied here.

There are many who think this is a huge advantage for Romney. I don't think the people at Team Obama think as you do. I wish they did and became complacent, but they are much smarter than that, and you. Read the other thread on ObamaCare becomes ObamaTax, and if you don't see some peril in your cause, you would be completely clueless.

Romney is going to lose because he runs on negative. He doesn't actually offer any solutions. As more and more people become aware of this tactic, the bigger the lead President Obama will have.

    OOOPS!
There's a little problem with your "ObamaTax" bullshit!

When Mitt Romney signed his HCR bill (identical to Obamacare) into law in Massachusetts - Mitt stated very clearly that the fine on people who won't get health care coverage is "NOT A TAX".

    http://angryblackladychronicles.com/2012/06/28/even-romney-agrees-its-not-a-tax/

Both Obamacare and Romneycare fine irresponsible people who won't get health care coverage.

ACCORDING TO MITT ROMNEY - that fine is "NOT A TAX".

    LOL
You guys really fucked up when you picked Mitt Romneycare to be your nominee!

Win or lose in November - President Obama's ACA achievement has been declared constitutional,

It's an accomplishment that can never be taken away from him.
It will be built upon and improved in the years to come.

It's a simple fact that President Obama has delivered on CHANGE.

And no rabid teabaggers can ever again claim with even a shred of credibility that Obamacare is unconstitutional.

    +1

As someone who's mother was uninsurable after getting diagnosed with Alzheimer's and all her care and finances to take care of her was put on me and my father until she died I thank President Obama for achieving something great other past presidents could not do.

I also love that President Obama pissed off all the greedy fox news brain washed Republicans today. That was icing on the cake. They are all threatening to leave America too. If they want I can help them pack their bags... ass holes.

    David4985,

Most are threatening to move to Canada----which may prove to be a disappointment for the 'We Don't Want No Laws & Healthcare' crowd.

A better fit for the Tea Party would be SOMALIA.

What can a person do but laugh at the sheer willfull blindness of this republican fanatic SoCal, His reactions to facts and reality when presented to him is very much like how much water permeates a ducks back when poured on it. The stuff just rolls right off. LOL

Isn't fanaticism an amazing factor to deal with when attempting to lay out facts to such people. Their mindset has them right no damn matter what facts prove them wrong, they will go beyond all reasonable means to twist issues and facts into their "I'm Right Your Wrong Mold" LMAO

Thank you very much for posting this !!! I'd tried telling some of our Conservaposse this but they like to ignore facts, and it appears that even though this is right before us now SoCal and company still cannot relate it to their reality, Not sure what deck of cards they're dealing from !! LOL I think its a few cards short a full deck though !!! Ha !!

This video clip will make a great campaign commercial for Obama -- all they have to do is juxtapose it with the Etch-a-Sketch Romney's more recent conversion to being rabidly against health care reform.
Romney: Takes all sides of every issue. Who knows what to believe?

Of course, the Republicans are trying to console themselves wiht the idea that this harms Obama. However, that's a political nonstarter as Obama supporters are behind the president and Romney "supporters" are opposed to the president. And that's all. They do not like Romney in particular. They do not support whatever flaccid ideas Romeny has presented. And that's not a recipe for electoral victory.

    Yup.

How will the fact that Obamacare has been declared constitutional change anyone's minds?

Will folks who support Obamacare hear that Obamacare is constitutional and decide that they now oppose it?
Obviously not - they now have more reason to support it.

Will folks who oppose Obamacare hear that Obamacare is constitutional and decide that they now support?
    Certainly some will.
Even if it's only a small number - it will be a gain for President Obama.

So - the Repubs can console themselves with delusional talking points.
But the simple fact is that the Repubs LOST.

What is so funny and ironic to me is how desperately these partisan repubs are having to work to support and make excuses for Romney in their effort to Win. All in spite of the glaring facts against them and their man !!!

How would we like to have to torture facts in order to come up with some way to sell to the public the loss of Health Care as Romney has promised ? (a health care program very similar to his in Mass that has 80% approval) I don't think its a winning strategy in the long term at all.

The Public will begin to see the truth about the healthcare law along with its benefits, because now that the program is coming more and more into play, its benefits will overshadow all the lies. .

Hahaha! THIS!! Curtains for Mittens. The independent voter knows bullshit when they hear it. I can hardly wait until election day!

Just think, Christian. We're going to get to hear 4 MORE YEARS of the ConservaPussies® whining and crying as President Obama continues to steer our nation off the Bush shoals and back to the prosperity and global esteem that the U.S. enjoyed at the end of the Clinton Administration.

Romney's flip-flopping goes to his credibility on a whole raft of issues. The Obama campaign and the President himself (in the debates) are not going to let that pass. Romney is going to be left looking like the hypocrite he is. People will forgive a lot, but they do not take kindly to being treated like idiots.
