Anyone here who did not want to get a pet at first, but now can't do without?

I was adamant about never getting a cat. Smelly litterbox, shedding everywhere, scratching everything, etc, etc. The first year I had Buddy I was literally hoping I'd find someone who would take him. I only got him to save him from going to the shelter and you know what usually happens then.

Now, 7 years later, and I truly cannot imagine my life without Buddy. He really is just a great cat and companion. He's never destroyed anything with the exception of a shoelace and a few rolls of toilet paper. He greets me at the door every time I come home.

**The odd twist to this all is before I got Buddy, I was driving home in the dark. A cat ran in front of my car and I ran it over. I drove the same route the next day during the day and it was nowhere to be found which was odd because I knew the road maint did not clean up roadkill that quickly. Then, when I finally got Buddy, I realized his spotting and coloring was almost exactly like the cat that I had run over. Just strange coincidence.

    You are fortunate beyond description.

Mine are like some kind of super weapon. Turn your back and *crash* They stay in the bedroom when I am not home because that is the only room in the house I have managed to purge of all destructibles and dangerous objects ($4800 in vet bills later).

    Still, they are adorable.

I wanted a pet for years, but had to get a work schedule that would allow me to take care of one.

That happened last year, and now I love my sweet little Princess. icon_biggrin.gif

I once thought of buying an aquarium so I drove to the closest animal store and while I was taking my tour there I saw little kitties behind glass all jumping around. all of them were with tiger patterns and I noticed one little black kitten sleeping in the back corner.. I asked the store manager how much for a kitten he said the striped ones are 50€ and the black one is 30€ so I felt insulted for that kitten and asked why? he said "many likes the striped ones more" I told him if that's the case gimme the black one! icon_smile.gif

Good for you for waiting until you could take care of her. Some people get one, and the poor thing has to sit alone for way too long.

I have always wanted a pet but don't think it's a good idea to try to take care of more than myself.

If more people thought like us when it comes to having children, the world wouldn't be getting overpopulated.

LOL @ "super weapon". Too funny.

Yes, I do feel very fortunate. From the moment I got Buddy, I got him a scratching pad, then a scratching post and I played with him nightly with a leather shoe string. He always had alot of energy but he never had a destructive nature to him.

I went exactly thirty years between dogs. My most recent came as a surprise and I can't believe I went so long without.
