APPROPRIATE CLOTHING DISAGREEMENT:: Wearing clean gym clothes while shopping?

So... I talked in my other thread about my mowing in my squarecut swimming suit. and how that might be perceived in my family oriented neighborhood and
considering I'm president of my HOA. It was largely a split decision, but there
were many guys here that felt I should go the extra mile and continue my former
approach of wearing gym shorts or walking shorts (even if its 105 outside).

So Doug (Meninlove) and I thought about an interesting question. What about wearing clean gym clothes while shopping? Is this appropriate?
I once ran into Dillards to pick up an alteration right after the gym with gym clothes on and even an open sided shirt (oh the horrors!)

Usually if I go shopping with the bf or with a friend or alone, I usually just wear
casual clothes, no gym clothes.... but what if you have plans to shop and all you have are clean gym clothes? Is walking through the mall or shopping with
your gym clothes on appropriate? (and this isn't a "flip flop" question) haha.

    Define gym clothes. Define shopping.

Are you talking the Walmart (opening for Walmartian pics. Diabolical, eh?) or Neiman Marcus?

    Shorts and a T?

    Shorts and a muscle shirt?

    Shorts and side cut shirt?

Gym clothes are pretty much all I wear anyway, unless I'm going to a function with a dress code or where it would be seriously out-of-place.

I dress for comfort. Fuck what others think. icon_wink.gif

    All of the above.

Well, are you supposed to go home and change because you need to buy some milk?

All tacky regardless, though if you're shopping at Wal-Mart you'll still be the least tacky person there since your clothes are clean.

I would say... gym shirt, not a Tshirt and a pair of athletic shorts.

The reality is... I see guys with simple white T shirts working out at the gym and many wearing athletic or T shirts while shopping.

"Shopping" can be as you define it. Wandering the malls, going into a store like a Kohls, Target..... or (heaven forbid) even a Walmart....lol

It's supposed to reach 101 in DC today. If I had to go shopping, I would probably wear a thong. icon_lol.gif

My opinion is that gym shorts and a t-shirt works (sort of) on a man pushing 50 out shopping, gym shorts and a tank top (or open-sided shirt), not so much. Teenagers and 20-somethings can sort of get away with this, but it looks kind of tacky on older guys (just my opinion being one of the older ones) icon_lol.gif At the end of the day, who really cares. It's not like people are going to stop you in the store, roll their eyes, and say "WHAT were you thinking?")

A lady at my gym who is in her 40s and in very good shape wears workout clothing everywhere I see her. If she dressed a little more I'd probably see her as attractive. She looks like she's begging for attention and that is never attractive.
Please don't wear A&F to cover up with.

If I'm actually going all the way to town and shopping, I usually put on shorts that have pockets. These aren't usually "gym clothes" because stuff in the pockets can get broken or in the way when working out. But if you can reduce the amount of "stuff" you need to carry, then no problem. In the summer time, I just keep a shirt in the truck console, in case I need to go inside someplace that requires one.

Yes, there was that period in the 90's when people just wore gym shorts and slung a fag bag around their waist to hold "necessary stuff." It didn't last long for a reason.
