It was heartbreaking seeing Nastia bust her ass, well her front, on tv. I mean she hit hard but went right back to it.

You are right.. hard, several of them did face or back plants tonight. Nastia did leave with grace though. Great example for how to go out with a smile and appreciation for the fans.

I really have to give Nastia credit for giving this a shot despite coming short. My expectations of her were low anyway, but she fought to the bitter end. She's the first Olympic All Around Champion since Nadia Comaneci to even try out for another Olympics. That alone is impressive.

I'm glad she had a decent beam routine to end on a good note and was supportive of all the girls during the rest of the competition. She's been remarkably positive to the media despite it all.

The rivalry is between Jordyn Wieber and Gabby Douglas. Jordyn Wieber is the current World and National Champion. However, Gabby Douglas just won Olympic Trials and was just 0.2 of a point behind Wieber at the US Championships. I definitely expect them to be the top two all-arounders.

McKayla Maroney is another star of her own. She is absolutely the best in the world on vault. In reality, she is the closest to an almost guaranteed gold medal at the Olympics for USA because her vaults are just so much better than what anyone else is doing right now.

As a team, I think the US will be the absolute favorites for the team title. China is not nearly the team they were 4 years ago because the Olympics are no longer on their turf. Plus, they've simply had a rough past few years. The Russians seemed to be making tremendous strides since 4 years ago, but almost every one of their gymnasts is dealing with an injury or coming back from an injury. I have no idea what to expect from them. Meanwhile, Romania has had a very successful year so far despite all the odds against them.

I only watched Douglas' floor and balance beam, but after those routines, I really didn't think she would be in first place. I honestly thought that she'd be in 5th or 6th. Both routines were, IMO, sloppy and unrefined. Yet the two routines I saw of Wieber looked solid and refined. She must have really blown everyone way with her UEB routine and vault.

Tonight was the roughest I had seen Wieber all year to be honest. She made things look hard and labored. Quite clunky, let's say. She has a lot to fix between now and the Olympics especially on beam. She's not making ANY of her acro connections. Why she continues to do that stupid "front handspring", back full, back handspring connection is beyond me because she has never, ever truly connected those three skills together at all.

Douglas pretty much did the best vault I've ever seen her do tonight. That alone was a huge boost. She did OK on floor and bars. However, her hiccups on beam worry me. She's had problems on beam since last year and still hasn't resolved them.

I have to say that Alicia Sacramone being left off completely was the biggest surprise for me. I mean, I didn't quite expect her to make the Olympic team. I didn't quite see that happening. However, I was pretty certain she would at least be an alternate because she did everything she needed to do on vault and beam both days. Yet she didn't even get that.

I'm really surprised Sarah Finnegan got an alternate spot to be honest. There's been a lot of interest in her in recent months, but I thought she looked worse at trials than she did at nationals. She doesn't really add anything to the team even as a back up. Alicia Sacramone could at least provide for vault and beam and Elizabeth Price could do vault, bars, and floor.

And well I'll be damned about Anna Li! I thought Marta Karolyi did NOT want a one-event specialist, because that's exactly what Anna Li is. But she must really be desperate to fill that void on bars if she has Li as an alternate. I was pretty certain Marta didn't give a shit about her, lol.

Great power, but definitely too Parkettes in my opinion icon_wink.gif

More than anything I'm impressed that she's a power gymnast who has a decent bars routine. That alone was a huge plus to her position as a reserve. She would definitely be my first pick out of the three reserves should anyone from the main team get injured.

And the thing is they do a shit job at interviews, lol. All these years of running that site and they still haven't gotten the hang of doing a decent interview!

Anyway, I'll post as soon as online coverage becomes available. I already know several people who got HD video of both nights icon_wink.gif

I was a hot mess after Day 2. Such an emotional roller coaster!

Haha, you got caught up in the hype like everyone else then? icon_razz.gif

The announcements at the end of Day 2 were terrifying. Sooo much pomp. It reminded me of that god-awful scene in the Hunger Games when all the tributes were being introduced for the first time. icon_confused.gif

I was expecting Aly Raisman to break out into a Queen of England wave as she walked onto the floor... as if she didn't already know that she was going to be on the team. icon_rolleyes.gif

P.S. I love the girl, but Gabby REALLY needs to work on her interview vocabulary.

I am so thrilled about this team! I can't wait for the Games, they will def get Silver at the very least....but we want that Gold.

And Maroney better be damn happy she has that Amanar, o/w that would have been Price's spot in the team in a heartbeat...besides the fact that Maroney's vault gives almost a point to the teams score from execution and virtuosity, she has NOTHING else valuable...where as Price was solid both days and does a pretty legit Amanar. But then again, the Committee's primary goal is nabbing the Team Gold medal...plus Maroney, if she just lands the vault given she makes Event Finals, WILL medal no matter what color it is

U can watch a lot of the videos on Youtube...they usually post them like the day or so after...just type in "2012 Olympic Trials - D1/D2 - Name of Person - Event" and it will come up somewhere

i totally knew alicia wouldn't make it...she has a kick-ass vault and all, but then again the common vault these days is an Amanar...and that has a higher SV than a handspring rudii...her beam is solid, but the other women have just as much difficulty as her with much more international looks to them (i.e. Kyla Ross, Sarah Finnegan).

And speaking of Sarah I couldnt agree more!!. have u ever seen a cuter, more porcelain girl?! She has a bomb-ass floor set and great beam...but I had a feeling she wouldn't make it...however, if she has a bar set anywhere close to Gabby D's, that spot for Kyla could have very well been Sarah's.

And I TOTALLY agree with Anna Li as a alternate. Her UB is so good and consistent. With Chellsie falling at the 08 Games in TF, Marta was probably a little worried to put in a girl doing one event. Thats a lot of pressure on her....bc she would literally only be in London FOR the TF UB line-up. But this sport is sooo caddy and tight-knit...things have to be cut throat sometimes...lol

LOL! Gabby's interviewing skills have improved really. You should watch stuff from a year ago. I mean, she is not as well spoken as Bridget Sloan or Alicia Sacramone, but what can you really expect from teenagers, eh?

I was rather touched to see Aly Raisman in absolute tears when they announced the team. I feel like she just goes through the motions of every competition. Granted, she was one of the locks for the team, but the thrill of officially making it was still quite a moment for her. She was such a hot mess coming out of the locker room to the podium, haha.

I was mainly gutted for Rebecca Bross. 2 years ago, I felt confident she would be on this team. Just goes to show what all can happen in 2 years. It broke my heart to watch her fall apart on bars. However, I am VERY disappointed that NBC didn't show her beam routine after because it was a good routine. I mean, before Wieber and Douglas, Bross was the next "it" girl heading to these Olympics. It's been tough to see her have a similar fate as Vanessa Atler.

I am going to guess that Marta hasn't completely let go of Alicia's meltdown in Beijing. I see that as a potential reason why she was left off even from the alternate positions. However, I can't blame Marta for having a backup bars girl in case either Gabby or Kyla goes down.
