Gott sei Dank! I was spared losing electricity during this hellacious heat wave. I drove in and found the office building is without electricity, so no work. Boo hoo! I really wanted to work today, too! icon_wink.gif

The office building is inside a nature reserve in the city. The Canada geese were up and out early this morning. They stroll across the streets in groups and stop traffic. And they dont hurry or walk in a straight line. Just meander slowly across the street, while everyone sits in their cars and waits. It's funny to see a great big bus sitting waiting for the lone straggler to get across the street.

Good for you! My office is open, unfortunately. But at least I didn't lose power at home. icon_biggrin.gif

I don't have this luxury. If my "office" has no electricity, I have to jump start it.

This happened to me once while I was working on the campus of FAU in south FLA..... only problem is the building had a back-up generator and power was restored about 3 mins after the electricity had gone out.

Those really were an exciting 3 minutes though I was 1 second away from throwing my paper work in the air saying "fuck this shit, I'm outta here!"

once power was restored, I quietly returned to work, as usual icon_confused.gif

Everyone in DC works in an office. We all talk like policy wonks and look like boring bureaucrats. That's what makes us special.

icon_neutral.gif ... so why does that require electricity? Get back to work! Geez, I didn't get a pass when I was without power for three weeks last winter in the snow, and I've got a lab full of gadgets to run.

Oh... I've been trying to contact a machine shop all day but nobody answers the phone. They're in VA. icon_confused.gif

No electricity means no computer which means you can't check politico.com obsessively. What's the point?

Anyone who is not an office worker in the DC area is in such high demand that they feel like they don't actually have to answer the phone. Good luck with that one.

I am glad I am here so I can explain the complex ecosystem otherwise known as our nation's capital to folks outside the Beltway.
