Just wondering a show of hands and opinions about what time do you blokes start working out at i.e. morning 5 am or evening 7 pm etc. also is there a reason for this? does it allow you to establish a greater commitment?

    would love to hear more

    cheers

I workout first thing in the morning before going to work...it just sets a positive tone for the day. If time permits, I do cardio after work...but strength training is always in the early morning hours (6am)

    I don't do anything before 3pm.
Anything before that screws up my circadian rhythm.
Ok, that may be bullshit, but I recall reading warnings against working out in the morning because the body isn't ready - or something like that. In my case, this is true because my whole body, and joints, are too stiff in the morning to do anything simple, let alone strenuous cardio.

I'm definitely NOT a morning person. FYI.

It's next to impossible to get me out of bed in the morning, so I work out at night. The gym is also less crowded which I like. So, it's usually between 6:30 or 8:30 pm when I get there. Just depends if it's spin or weights night.

I work 3rd shift so I hit the gym around 3 or 4 in the afternoon about an hour after I wake up. I love that I'm already well into my workout by the time the crowd starts arriving...I hate a packed gym.

I'm much more motivated in the afternoon. Plus, the gym is on the way home from work.

I've tried mornings, and I just can't get motivated that early in the day, and I DO NOT like showering at the gym. And it's a pain going to the gym, then coming back home to get ready, then going back to work.icon_smile.gif

I think when you workout depends greatly on your work schedule.

With that said, there are multiple studies that suggest the body responds best to exercise in the early afternoon, around 2pm.

Very few people at workout at 2pm.

Around noon works best for me. I'm awake, have digested some food, and have the energy to burn.

Although lately I have been going for a short run before breakfast, which feels great, just after it's finished. Seems to get the metabolism going for the day.

Some days I can't seem to get away from the desk (or the lab bench) and my workout gets spread over the whole afternoon. Write a report, run downstairs and do a superset. Run back upstairs and answer the phone, etc. I haven't decided yet whether that's good or bad.

My "gym" is in my basement.... along with the laundry. Since I work noon- 8:pm mostly, I work out in the middle of night anywhere from 10:pm to 2:am. Often working in laundry with sets. Laundry is sometimes a daily event since there are 5 of us in the house. I would love to get to a gym but I can't leave the house that late at night since I have 3 kids.
Also, if it is grass cutting day, then I work out just before mowing the lawn. Then it is an early evening time.

I end up going to the gym at about 4pm.

I'm awake, I've eaten, I've normally got some free time, the gyms pretty empty and when I've finished the rush hour is starting so I get to check out the talent in the lockerroom without any of the hassle.

For years I was into early a.m. workouts. Just felt at my peak of energy early and couldn't imagine trying to exert myself after work. Lately i'm preferring sleeping late, can get in some great workouts in the evening, don't have to be anywhere at a certain time. Plus, mostly older or out of shape people there in the mornings. Guys with great bodies seem to like to slepp in also.

Weekdays, it's always after work, so around 6pm.

Weekends, I weight train in the morning, and bike later in the afternoon.

I do cardio first thing in the morning since I'm a bit crunched for time between when the gym opens and I have to be at work, and then I go back in the afternoon for weights or more cardio, depends on the day and how I'm feeling.

I work out at 10PM. I go to my college's gym, so it is super crowded around dinnertime (6PM to 8:30PM). Although, sometimes I have some problems sleeping within the next hour.

I hit the gym after work around 5pm. Luckily, its not that crowded. I dont know how bad it is after 630 or 7p. Ive tried working out in the morning but its not for me. I get in a better workout in the evening. I have more energy and can push myself harder.

I wish I could wake up early enough to go in the morning.

I go right after work, usually around 6 PM. My gym is close to work so it makes the most sense to go either right before or after work for me.

I like to work out at night, like after 7pm. i do this because i feel like my muscles are looser, my lungs can breathe easier and after 7, the crowds die down. plus excercise wears me out, so i am able to hit the bed and go right to sleep.
