Always a great day, one of my favorite holidays of the year. A little quiet this year with only a swim party in the mix, but looking forward to a fun day!

Any special past 4th of July experiences?

Best wishes for a happy day!

And a happy July 4th from sunny and hot Orlando, Florida. It's always one of the hottest days of the year and for me, I always enjoy doing a huge cookout with the traditional summer foods. Who's hungry???

And here I was sure you would've said something about how there wouldn't be a US without the help of the French, Statue of Liberty, Pomme Frites...and all that jazz.

My French side is French Canadian. My dad grew up in Montreal, and his extended family is still in Canada.

They don't go to heaven where the angels fly
They go to lake of fire and fry
Won't see them again 'till the 4th of July"

A cookout is what we're attending, too. Not beginning until 4, to avoid the sun & heat. Doubt many of us will leave for the fireworks, too crowded in this area and really not that impressive. We might see some over the treetops a couple miles away.

My ancestors fought on both sides of the revolution. G-g-g-g-grandfather's family were loyalists. His wife's family were American patriots. Must have been interesting.

They fought in one battle of historical importance, that I know of. The Battle of the Flocke. It's historical significance is that the first recorded charge by the new American cavalry was made in that battle. Otherwise, it appears they all took a shot at each other and then ran away. It wasnt like the battle of the Cowpens or anything.

Yes it is sort of oxymoronic but until the next revolution by the people it's what we got.

We espouse Jeffersonian ideals, but live in a Hamiltonian society.

Its an interesting parabola; this - Freedom we have... but Good Men and Women have fought and died for it. Its run by men with more money and connections higher above than us. We can do and say more with our lives, well most of us as close to the Upper Middle Class, White, and Conservative description as we get... which is more than can be said for other countries... I'd rather work and live for my gay rights here. After all, they are inalienable, so I will exercise them, regardless if it's on the books YET or not. Truth be told, if you don't like America, go live in another country for a while... in no time, you'll appreciate YOUR Freedom Of Speech, and maybe you'll actually put it some USE. icon_wink.gificon_wink.gificon_wink.gificon_wink.gificon_wink.gif

"I love America. There's no country I'd rather be in, there's no country I'd rather be from. Every one of us, lucky to be here. Even Black people. But for Black people, America is like the uncle who paid your way through school - but molested you." -- Chris Rock

Obviously, I'm both Black and gay; and I think the above applies to both groups.

    Happy 4th, my American brethren.
