The best "fireworks" display I ever saw was in the early 90's in Memphis at a huge pot party.

I remember going to Colonial Williamsburg for Independence Day in 1997. The fireworks show that night was absolutely incredible since it was orchestrated so well to various patriotic songs. Funnily, no sooner than the fireworks ended, the sky began to fall! It started pouring down so heavily while everyone tried to walk to the parking lot half a mile away! I was completely soaked and shivering by the time my family got to the car.

About ten years ago at Cablevision billionaire Charles Dolan's annual fireworks display that he funds for the town of Oyster Bay in Long Island. (I went again this year.) What makes it truly spectacular is that instead of sweating it out in a crowd of strangers in a field or on a tar rooftop you can watch it from the privacy and comfort of your boat and enjoy the show mirrored in the calm waters below. But that year was truly exceptional - though this big event draws boaters from around the world, because I already had a seasonal mooring at the very head of the harbor, even multimillion dollar yachts couldn't get as good a view as I could as the harbor was heavily policed and no one could slip in and drop anchor in front of us. In fact, every boat of the many hundreds there were moored behind us so we got a completely unobstructed view of the fireworks going off to the right of Billy Joel's mansion. Only he had a better view. It was the same year he married that young girl, we watched his wedding from the boat. I was never able to get that good a mooring again.

Well it certainly wasn't San Diego's last night. A computer glitch fired off the ENTIRE 17-minute show in under 30 seconds 5 minutes before start time. Whoops!
