Potential modeling and talent scout opportunity.

So here's an update to the last topic I posted about how life shouldn't be this hard.

I moved out of my parents house, fixed my computer for $15 through some friends (lost all of my data from the previous hard drive though), my friend had surgery for his colon cancer and they say he might be fine though there's a chance it could come back later on, my loans came through and I'm going back to school in the fall at MSU, I've had a couple of interviews with a local credit union for a part time job while I go to school, and now I have been presented an opportunity to model when an agent saw my profile on ModelMayhem.

Now, as you know, I turn to realjock for advice for the good, the bad, and the ugly because you guys know everything... even the little fuckers like Anduru and dontknowwhy that take pleasure in being trolls have their roll to play in helping me out.

I have been contacted by a talent scout that says he would like to work with me. I contacted him via phone and we chatted a little today. His sales pitch was pretty good, but obviously I needed to come straight here and discuss it with you.

Here's the link to his websites:
    http://modeldesire.com/profile/dlpca
    http://www.facebook.com/DLP.CA

For those of you with experience in modeling/photography/managing or any other aspect of this industry, I could use a little advise on what to do. Remember, I'm new to modeling, and hopefully this could supplement my income while I go back to school and earn another degree. I just want to be careful and do the right research so that I don't get screwed.

Thanks for the help in advance, and to those that be trolling... I know you're just being cruel to be kind.

As a former high fashion model for Vogue Italia and noted fashion photographer who had his work published in Harper's Bazaar, my suggestion is do porn.

hai guise look at me i r pretti so i gon b modull k?

Attention whoring (trolling?) aside, be VERY wary. I'm on MM and lots of the stuff on there is sketchhhh. I've done ONE shoot through it - all the others are either untalented, porn, or might as well be porn due to the shoots' content.

Just checked the links you posted... he looks like the guy who tried to scout me for modeling shoots at the bar, and I saw he is based in Seattle. Eerie. Plus, the casting he lists on the profile you linked is prob for a tickling fetish site. Be wary!

    /facepalm

Of course you came directly to RJ for advice on modeling. Do yourself a favour and look into getting an actual agent if you want serious gigs and not guys looking to get you to pull a Mason Wyler.

Glad to hear your other issues are resolving mostly for the better.

hey buddy glad to hear things are working out for you hadn't heard from you in a while.

As for your question... Firebrand is right - be careful. Anything off of ModelMayhem should always be taken with a grain of salt. I know this cuz I used to be with Numa Models and have talked to the agency's director about the usefulness and legitimacy of that website...

Anyways, I've just sent an email to Numa's director to ask about this guy... if anyone can help it'll be him.

Double face palm... this guy IS an agent, I'm asking if you guys think he is legit or not.

Thanks man, this is what I'm looking for. And this agent that wants to manage me isn't on MM, but has a couple of models under him that are on there.

Nay, but it is an naughty habit I acquired from sojourning for a two-year's tour in Her Majesty's Realm, where I took a fancy toward the inclusion of unnecessary vowels.

That, and attending primary school in Germany for children of mixed-nations servicemembers where British English was modeled for us. Oddly enough, the accent didn't take.

    Point being:

MM is sort of a small step up from being Craigslist.

There is a 95% the dude isn't legit.

I would be skeptical. Does he have his own personal website?

As cute as you are, you will NEVER be able to take the title of RJ's resident fashion diva away from Edward...

    Red flags would be:
    - if you are asked to do nude or implied nude shots
    - if you are asked to pay for classes or other odd things

Unless you are the next male supermodel signing with a top tier agency, I think you should expect to pay photographers for portfolio pics that meet the requirements of the agency. The money in modeling is mostly in commercial work. There is also money in fashion, but I think you have to be in a big market with the right agency to land those gigs. If your agent doesn't provide you opportunities in commercial or fashion, then I don't think you will earn much money or you might be earning money doing shady things.

Be careful if he wants more of a "relaxed" look on your face.
