I thought it would be interesting to find out if anyone from your hometown will be participating in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. I have a feeling you guys may know someone personally, trained with an Olympic athlete or know someone from your city who is going.

My hometown, Orlando, FL, will be represented by Brittany Viola in the 10 meter platform diving competition. For those of you who follow major league baseball, especially the Minnesota Twins, will like the fact she is the daughter of former Twins pitcher Frank Viola. The Violas have made Orlando their home after his retirement from baseball.

In Cincinnati, David Payne, Mary Weinberg, and Josh Schneider all made it in 2008, but I believe they all missed out this time around.

Nobody from my hometown that I know of (there could be other athletes from DC metro whom I don't know about), but the closest would be gymnast Gabby Douglas. She's from Virginia Beach, Virginia, but has been training in Des Moines, Iowa for the past two years. Nevertheless, I will be cheering on my Virginia gal as she is by far my favorite gymnast on this US team. I'm excited to see her!

Eszter Povazsay, Joao De Lucca, Pedro Oliveira, Carlos Almeida. They are not from my hometown, but they are from my University. I thought it was pretty cool.

Chris Horner lives in San Diego and will finally be racing on the US cycling team. I've passed him on the road a couple times...of course, he was going the other way. icon_smile.gif

I did my PhD with Claus Olesen in our hometown of Aarhus. He's competing in the Starboat and his PhD actually ran a bit long because he also competed in 2004 (but in a different boat class). There are more from my hometown but I only know this guy.

But really I think I might be checking out the kajaking this year:
