If it's going to be live they need someone with stage experience. Which I guess Lea Michele has. Damn you Quest! Some gay casting director is going to read this and it's going to be all your fault. Unless they read Neight's suggestion and get the idea to hire Selena Gomez and Justin Beiber.
El_Crankodor saidI hate the original so utterly that anything they do to change it would be welcome.
WHAT????Please tell me you don't dislike Julie Andrews. The first time I went to the Macy's Thanksgiving parade it was pouring down rain and I was surprised to find that the celebrities riding in the parade wave to the cameras in front of Macy's and then get off the floats. EXCEPT for Julie Andrews who rode the whole route waving and smiling. The guy in front of me yelled "Now that's a REAL star." (Emmit Smith who had just won Dancing With the Stars stayed on his float too as did Hall and Oates but that was it).
^ That was her return to live theatre, before even the Broadway musical Victor/Victoria. I got to see "Putting It Together" because I was lucky enough to have a Manhattan Theatre Club subscription. (Coincidentally, I also knew the musical director, who later wrote the musical "Grey Gardens," who once confessed back in our twenties that while he lived across the street from me he and his neighbor would peep at me through my apartment windows.)
I'd imagine most people think of Leslie Anne Warren when they think of the musical "Cinderella," not Julie Andrews, who originated the role on live TV. Speaking of which, if they can reimagine Julie Andrews as Brandy, why not reimagine Maria Von Trapp with someone else?
It's this Thursday - Carrie Underwood is supposed to play the Julie Andrews Role. Underwood won on American Idol and has had some country hits - but can she sing a whole Broadway show? Can she act? Is this going to be a disaster? Since it's live, there are no retakes or edits.
