LOL... and I know exactly what she was saying. She's filipina, stereotyped, I know LOL and probably nymphomaniac. icon_razz.gif

Though, as one of the comments said:

this is a horrible depiction of the Filipino community. Even the F.O.B's don't sound like that. I think they tried to mix Filipino with Asian like Japanese or Chinese, maybe even Korean.

Which is true. heh. Some of us may have accents etc, but only the most uneducated here speak English like that, and only when joking and drunk. icon_razz.gif

But goddamn... pingpong? And why the heck are they cheering?! icon_eek.gif

So weird. I was just watching this for the very first time last night. I was quite surprised. She seemed to be depicted as a Japanese/Chinese/Korean mail-order bride based on her English intonation, but I was able to understand her Tagalog (read: Filipino) words. I know for a fact that our English intonation is not what was depicted.

I won't even say that "the most uneducated here speak English like that." One's heavy accent does not necessarily correlate to his lack of fluency with the language, which does not necessarily mean he is uneducated.

The ping-pong bit, albeit mildly degrading, is the funniest part of the movie.

Yeah. Totally not what we call Carabao English. Her accent is East Asian rather than Filipino. But yeah, westerners won't notice. LOL

Yah, I didn't mean her accent. I meant the vocabulary (dinga ling? LOL a filipina is more likely to say peepee or something) and the general grammar.

Indian nationals for example, often have heavy accents when speaking English because of the different way their own languages are intonated. But it doesn't cover the fact that they speak and understand excellent English.

BTW: It's from the movie Priscilla: Queen of the Desert

omg that's funny... never saw this movie... she spoke english more like how a chinese immigrant would speak english imo, not how a Filipino would (btw, we butcher the english language with own unique stamp thankyouverymuch).
