Every once in a while there is a thread here on RJ about what kind of dog to get. Maybe it shouldn't be about the breed of the dog, but about the individual dog itself.

Photographer tells story of doomed shelter dogs:

Whoa....I made it to the 4th pic. Cannot look!! I know it happens all the time, but to see their faces moment's before they are put down, is just too painful.
DOWN WITH BREEDERS AND SNOBS WHO JUST HAVE TO HAVE THE
    "RIGHT" DOG!!!

If you travel much, it is about the breed. Different airlines have different rules/guidelines for different breeds.

After the second photo I knew I was in for it. This was incredibly sad. I visit shelters every so often, and when I'm ready to devote time to having pets there's no question I'm adopting.

I read this yesterday, and I totally cried. It's not just about breeds or mutts or what not -- this is taking place in Taiwan -- it's about spaying/neutering, and ethical treatments of unwanted pets. And unfortunately some countries are still quite behind in the educations of animal population control; and this photographer is trying to bring awareness to his fellow citizens.

    I'm still crying goddammit. icon_cry.gif

Just a reminder, if you want a specific breed, you can still rescue. There are breed specific rescue organizations. In most cases there is nothing wrong with the dog, just the owner. The organizations know the breed and the dog and will work to make sure you adopt the best dog for you.

Man, so hard to look at. I wish all these guys/girls could have a happy home where they can love as much as they want to!
