The first of two films in which Jackson is rendering Tolkien's The Hobbit has finished filming.

I'm excited but I'm anxious to see how this 48 fps vs the traditional 24 fps plays out. I've heard it described as "too real"

Hmmm. Well, if anyone has a sense of how real something fantastical should be, it's Jackson and the people he works with. The LOTR movies were astonishingly detailed and that worked in their favor. Still, it's hard for me to imagine all the implications of twice as many fps.

Elijah Wood is listed as Frodo on imdb.com. I suppose he appears in some kind of framing scenes, as Frodo does not appear in the book.

Martin Freeman plays Bilbo (you may have seen him as Watson in "Sherlock"). Ian McKellan, and Hugo Weaving are back. And so are Cate Blanchett and Orlando Bloom, whose characters were also not in the book. There's even a cast entry for Radagast the Brown, so the script does seem to wander from the original material.

Doesn't look like it. Here's the cast listing:

And yeah, Tolkein wasn't very good at stretching his imagination beyond medieval northern Europe when it came to what people looked like. "Swarthy" was often shorthand for "bad guy." icon_sad.gif
