Do you ever feel being white brands you as racist?

Its a very uncomfortable feeling every time I am around a black person whom I have nothing against, yet find I have to watch what I say or hide my accomplishments from. My friends that know me better would probably defend me should another crises come up in politics, but what if I were alone in a world that judged me as such by my skin color? What if every word in self defense could be twisted based on cultural perception? Thank God I don't live in that world, but what if? I personally have a lot of respect for Obama and truly believe I am safe by his decisions to promote a better America rather than a better race.

eh it's white privilege. You think you're being courteous, but it's just acknowledging the differences and the fact that they'll never change.

unless your words/actions suggest otherwise, no intelligent person would look at someone and "brand" them as being racist merely based upon the color of their skin.

and just FYI, there is no such thing as "reverse racism" - that is a myth. racism is all about power and control over the minority. since whites hold the majority of power and control, it is not possible for other racial groups to be racist against them, since they do not have nearly as much power and control.

Maybe you should you get to know some of the multitudes of black people who are accomplished, if that is the crux of your insecurity.

so when one of Farrakhan's thugs referred to the Pope (John Paul II) as a "no good cracker" the thug was not being a racist? When Jesse Jackson called New York City Hymietown he was not being a racist?

Wrong, racism is about hate and a primitive fear of the Other . . . thus, all humans can be racists regardless of the population numbers.

    your ignorance is showing.

there is not such thing as "reverse racism."

other races can not be racist against whites since racism is about power and control. whites are the majority, and other racial groups do not hold the majority of power and/or control.

other minority racial groups can be prejudiced against whites, but prejudice =/= racism.

    you tried it.

OK so in California and other states where White people are or are becoming the minority, then they can't be racist against anyone? So the Latinos, Blacks and Asians can be the racists cuz they are in control?

    i can't right now.

this is sociology 101. but clearly you're not intelligent enough to have been admitted into a university to have taken that particular course. there's always community college, though!

Girls girls, you are both pretty. You are right, there is no such thing as reverse racism, when someone, black, white, or what have you, is being condescending because of the race of another person, it is simply racism. If a black man hates all asian people, he is racist. If an asian man hates all mexicans, he is racist.
Yeah, whites are fucking AMAZING at being racist and thinking that we are not. Most of us think racist things without even thinking that they are racist.

You can't say racism is simply the majority against the minority, because then in places like Baltimore (60%black people) there would be ONLY black against everyone racism. In Asia, there would ONLY be asian against everyone racism.

This might piss a few folks off since hes mentioning alot of stuff from the past, but I thought he made some valid points. I personally think anyone can behave in a racist manner but I think what Mooney is trying to explain here, is that the state of being racist at its core is from those in power who implement it. Omg when he said the "Black Anglo-saxon" icon_eek.gif

    if only.

there's two kinds of racism, (1) the "i hate all X" kind, which pretty much everyone recognizes and most people will call you out on, and (2) the injustices and inequalities that are ingrained in our social/economic/political systems. Most people don't do (1), but it's very easy to be an unwitting participant in (2).

Also, before you make a stab at my intelligence too, I got a 32 on the ACT and a 1940 on the SAT, and was accepted on the second highest scholarship to Concordia college in Moorhead MN. I took sociology and was a professors favorite.

ok i was with you until you got to this point. i'm sorry, but you couldn't be any more wrong. minority racial groups CAN NOT be racist against other minority racial groups. i've said it before, but i will say it again because apparently it hasn't sunken in - racism is all about power and control. minority racial groups hold no power or control as opposed to whites.

minority racial groups can be prejudiced against other racial groups, but prejudice =/= racism!

That is really strange. Because the dictionary disagrees. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/racism

But hey, if you want to keep thinking that go for it.

"a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race"
