Do you think gay Republicans have higher moral standards than other gay people? I think so because they tend to be religious, and we all know that good religion promotes high moral standards.

I tried to be Republican, but they are so square about everything! (lol) One of my best buddies is total right wing and I learn a lot from him. I am more independent when it comes to politics.

I'm not a Democrat or a Republican, but I am very conservative on many issues. I just think government needs to stay out of most things.

The Constitution was there to limit government and protect the people from the government....

Don't you wonder why he refuses to use the regular quote and reply function? Must be a plot of some kind that you can only avoid by manually doing it. In multiple colors.

PaulNKS saidI'm not a Democrat or a Republican, but I am very conservative on many issues. I just think government needs to stay out of most things.

The Constitution was there to limit government and protect the people from the government....

That's true about the purpose of the US Constitution. What right-wingers forget is that the Constitution acknowledges that all rights inherently reside with the people, and that it's the people who allow the government to have limited rights, not the other way around. The Constitution does not GRANT individual rights but RECOGNIZES them, with the government's primary job being to protect those rights, not limit them.

That philosophical concept has become lost in recent years, and for all the Republican bleating about smaller government, what they really want is more intrusive government. Government surveillance without warrant, arrest without due process, secret prisons, enhanced interrogations, legislating a radical conservative social agenda, blending of religion with state - those and more are right-wing initiatives.

All making for a government that's actually bigger, in terms of controlling our private lives, and trampling on our individual rights and freedoms, rather than smaller. Republicans want government to be smaller only in those areas where they fear opposition to their social and corporate agenda: less education, less regulation of harmful industries, less safety regulation, less control over dishonest business practices that hurt the poor and middle class, but enrich their 1% backers.

In reality Republicans support a very big government, when it comes to meddling with our lives in ways that have nothing to do with protecting us, but with making us conform to their vision of God & Country. Big on morals, small on methods, the ones to improve our daily lives in practical ways. Better our children get their science from the Bible than from a classroom, that might help them be competitive in a global economy.

It all boils down to who are the masters and who the slaves. Democrats think the people are the masters, the government their slave. Republicans think the people are the slaves, the government their master, in the old European model of Feudalism. Only instead of an aristocracy, what rules us now is a corporate plutocracy, enabled by their front men in the Republican Party.

A better question would be do they ever even meet their own presumably higher standards. I give you Larry Craig, for example.

I have a question for gay Republicans (which can never be answered for some reason)....It was stated earlier in the thread that Republicans have high moral standards and it is no secret the religious right wants to eliminate all rights we in the LGBT community have worked hard to have.

Therefore, why are gay Republicans flocking to Republican candidates? It's just like the "chickens voting for Colonel Sanders" line from above. Why vote for someone who wants to hurt, or as they intend, to eliminate you?

And it's not a "big picture" type of issue when it comes to rights of an individual or group of individuals. Sure, I'm a very liberal Democrat but I think the person or niche of people should come first.

Maybe some of you guys that have posted above can answer this. I have heard responses from guys who only quote what Rush, Fox News or the Koch Brothers have told them to say.

The Constitution is there also to protect us from each other. It is there to protect minorities from majorities. It's there for a lot of reasons. It's imperfect, but it evolves through amendments.

Religion may promote high moral standards, but I am not seeing those standards executed by many of those self-proclaimed Christians.

That may be true in theory, however, if there is a Republican majority in the House, Senate and Mittens in the White House (shudder), I think that is out the window. Republicans will rip that one apart and amend it for their own agenda.

    My opinion.

HOW can you rationalize being "any of the above", given both the GOP/TEAbagger's and the southern baptist's hatred of gay men icon_question.gif

I once was "all of the above".

Today I am "none of the above".

I honestly cannot, and will not, choose the party with which I identify.

Does it annoy me that most Republicans (but not all) want to limit gay rights and equality? Yes.

Does it annoy me beyond belief that my taxes may go to covering the medical bill for the asshole on a crotch rocket who thinks it's okay to squeeze between two cars while going 80 on the freeway? Yes.

Do I think that, in times when the economy needs to be stimulated, it's better to provide breaks to small businesses rather than giving the general populace money to purchase products that were made in China? Yes.

The long and short of all of this, to me, is that politicians suck but there's no way around it. So we soldier on...
