Due to a tight scheduling constraint, I ended up having to do a late evening workout today. As I plan to do my weekend routine at the usual morning time tomorrow, would 12 hours between workouts be sufficient time for rest? I'll be doing a different routine.

No, but if you can rest later to make up for it you should be ok.

if you have to lift weights within 24hrs, just work different muscle groups. don't do the same ones you did the previous day. if you don't wait 24-48hrs. you're not doing your muscles any good to over-train them without enough recovery/repair time.

however if you are doing cardio (e.g. stairclimber, rowing, swimming, etc.) its ok to train within 12hrs. do sprint intervals or technique drills in one workout, and then endurance/anaerobic/long-distance in the other workout.

    good luck!

If you are planning a different routine with weights, no issues and certainly, cardio based exercises are always in "style" (as I always put it). Just be aware of your overall energy level and get plenty of sleep.

I've been in that situation and I plow ahead!

GordonLee90232 saidI always rest a minimum of 48 hours between strength training workouts.
You have no shirtless pictures to prove your point.

    Fail.
