Some say a man who wear glasses should step to the back of the queue. I say get yourself to the front of the line and don't be ashamed to wear them.

Thoughts......

More men should wear them.
Been thinking about getting a pair of frames, even though I don't need them to test the waters and see how I go at getting the odd date.

I admit my contacts are a big vanity issue, but the main reason is the function--I have no "blind" spots like with glasses. I occasional wear glasses depending on the setting.

And yes, glasses are quite sexy...especially when you have to slowly take them off before passionately making out...and other things ;-)
Aug 05, 2008 2:15 AM GMT
I actually prefer my glasses over my contacts. I only wear my contacts when I go to the gym or have a day outside (like a theme park trip or day out and about). My eyes dry out when I'm wearing my contacts and using a computer monitor, so that's why I wear my glasses a lot. Besides, I think I look better with my glasses.

Take a friend or relative when you check out frames. Take pictures. Ask for input. The right frame for the shape of your face can make all the difference. In fact, some of the sexiest guys out there look even better with the perfect pair of glasses.

Like cjstreed, I wear them out of necessity and have found it difficult to shed a bit of vanity. My blind spots are so large now, neither the glasses nor the contacts correct them -- but do make it easier to walk around and read large print. The 'tacs usually only go in at the gym because the glasses bounce and slide around. I would never negatively judge any guy in glasses. We should all remember there are reasons for everything.

As for the dates, my bf has never said anything negative. I didn't wear them when we met.

Go Glasses!

I wear mine constantly, only wear contacts when I go out drinking (don't want to worry about breaking the glasses lol) or if I am going to a festival or something and want to wear my sunglasses (I am to cheap to get perscription sunglasses and prefer the wrap around style anyway.) I don't even register them in terms of if a guy is hot or not. More likely to care about a bad haircut or ciggarettes than glasses.

Raptor saidi hate wearing glasses. ...

A bit strong? I know you don't like them, but referring to the original question: are you ashamed of wearing them? Would you judge someone else who wears glasses badly? I bet you'd look pretty hot in the right frame.

I agree if you dislike wearing glasses and lasik is an option, go for it! My retinas are so fried, they won't touch me. So, I have chosen to embrace glasses even if they don't work well. (although I usually take them off for photos -- vanity!)

I wear them. I have not special affinity towards glasses they are just tools. I prefer glasses with thin or rimless frames with oval lenses. I hate the recent retro trend of wearing thick framed glasses that make people look dorky.

I don't wear contacts because I can't stand putting things close to my eyes.
Aug 05, 2008 3:37 AM GMT
In general, guys look better with glasses... just another way for us to accessorize. I find glasses much more comfortable to wear than contact lens and so I use my glasses pretty much all the time. I have a pair of thick black rectangular frames which I think looks good on me.

So damn hot.

When I started going out socially, my gay friends would strongly encourage me to wear my contacts if I wanted to get noticed. It seemed like this was true... I would not usually get noticed with glasses. I rarely wore my glasses to the club during my 20s.

Nowadays, if I know I'm going to shake my behind, I usually wear my contacts but if I'm just meeting some friends out for chat or whatever light fare, I wear my glasses and don't think twice about it.

I wore glasses for years. If the question is, do glasses add to a man's appeal, or subtract from it, the question sounds bizarre to me.

Personally, I'd have to say glasses have no bearing on a man's attractiveness.

If the glasses are prescription, and the lens and frame are chosen to complement the fellow's face, kudos! But men who wear prescription glasses usually think of them as a burden. Men who have no need of glasses and accessorize with them are...meh. Seen enough of that.

I have been wearing glasses since I was aged seven years. Since they are necessary (I am 100% blind in my left eye and have just ok vision in the other) I have long since made my compromises.

In the pleistocene epoch when I did go out to bars I always wore glasses. There is nothing more awkward than bringing out the glasses later and subtly trying to introduce them. Well, the one more awkward thing is placing a wet passionate kiss on a new found friend's eyeball because the aiming mechanism was off.

Anyway, glasses like everything else depend on who is wearing them and how.

I usually wear my contact lenses, but if they are uncomfortable I wear my glasses since I am blind as a bat without them. I now have transition lenses on my glasses so when I go outside I don't squint in the sunshine.

I like the look. The right pair on a guy can be damn sexy. Not saying mine make me look sexy, but I like em. In the last few years my ability to read with out them has only gotten worse but doubt I'll switch to contacts any time soon.

It's just like sunglasses, the wrong pair and it's like, "damn what where you thinking?"

But it could be worse. I could need braces at 46!

...that would suck.

I suppose those braces are worse for those "intimate" with the wearer than they are for the actual 46 year old.

what a great topic
i have bee wearing corrective lenses now for almost 45 years. i was the total dork in school until the late 70's when i went peter max and got the wire frames... in the 80's i got contacts for vanity. now i am 20/400 and a moderate case of keratoconus, can only be treated with rigid gas permeables...
i wear my contacts to the gym, not because of the working out - but because of the steamroom and shower ;) hey I'm honest. that and the kc is not corrected with glasses. my only alternative to rgp's is corneal transplants, and i'm not ready for that yet... when i got a new pair of glasses, i had my bf pick out the frames. besides, he's the one who needs to look at them, not me =)
he wears glasses, and i think they're hot

I have very bad astigmatism and contact lenses dont work for me. I have to wear my glasses all the time now. Im used to them. I have to try out many frames before I decide on a pair. I change the frames every 2 years as my insurance allows. I'm so used to wearing them that I feel weird if I dont now.
Aug 06, 2008 7:46 PM GMT
I'm an optician, so I have something of a bias, but I like glasses on guys. The right frames can balance up facial assymetry and give definition to a face, and there are some very exciting designers running about at the moment. Generally speaking, "designer" brands are done under license, and look a bit generic save for the name emblazoned on the side somewhere. I'm all about optical designers

I almost always wear my contacts (RGPs) instead of my glasses. But this isn't for vanitys sake. My vision is horrible (somewhere around 20/800) and the lack of peripheral with the glasses drives me crazy. Plus to not have the glasses be thicker than coke bottles and extremely heavy on my nose, I have to get the smallest frames available. Which severly limits my range of vision to what is directly in front of my eyes. Then I can't just move my eyes to look at something I have to turn my whole head. However, if it weren't for the limited vision I would probably choose the glasses because the upkeep on the contacts can be a pain sometimes. And I definately agree that some guys look really hot with the right pair of glasses.

Glasses have no bearing on a man's attractiveness to me either.

Altho I've always thought I needed something to make me look a bit more interesting, less bland, so I choose my glasses accordingly.

I *loved* my contact lenses, but I couldn't get a prescription or a brand that worked for me, so I'm back to glasses. Sometimes wearing glasses makes me feel like I'm living life behind a windshield.

I finally gave up on contacts after I lost track of the number of plays, movies, and concerts I watched through unfocused lenses (I have astigmatism).

I wear glasses all the time, except when I go to the gym. If I have a hot date, I might leave the glasses at home too.

I hate contacts b/c they are uncomfortable and expensive. I am near sighted in one eye and far sighted in the other, so contacts are pricey!

I think people DO still have a negative view on glasses. I was called "four eyes" two years ago- I was 26!!! The guy was a jerk, but it still hurt my feelings.

Thanks for posting this topic! Glasses can be sexy!

I wear glasses whenever I need to. I can't tolerate contacts because the thought of anything touching my eye turns my stomach. Fortunately I was picky and took someone to help me choose my frames. I found a great pair of Armani frames that look incredible! Glasses can really get into the way at times but thank goodness for them when you need them! I personally love guys in glasses - not because I wear them but because it makes a guy HOT. It adds a wonderful level of sophistication to an already handsome man!

Someone once told me that you're supposed to bend the ends to fit better around your ears. Or you can buy one of those around the head glasses straps. Or tape.

Or not. =P

I wouldn't worry about how you look in glasses anyway, you look really handsome in them.

To be honest Ben, if they had the surgery for Presbyopia (folks that only need readers) I'd be first in line. I don't hate the way they look, just like yourself, I find them to be a bit of a hassle to keep clean. I tried the contacts that create monovison (reading with one eye while the other does the distance) not a fan of blurry vision.. So, till they can correct the close up and leave me my good distance (anything past my fist) I'll pop a pair on for reading or computer use only.

I'm infront of a computer all day, even though I don't "work work" I still have work to do which requires me sitting infront of my computer so I have to wear them. I also have to wear them while driving at night, watching tv, reading and at night if I'm just out with people, it stops me from getting a headache which is wonderful.

So I wear them a lot.

I've bent the arms in more Ryan, it helps but there is only so much pressure I can ignore at the sides will see how they go I suppose.

Despite the psycho pix trying to be contrarion, men with glasses are generally perceived to be more intelligent than non-glasses men. It's the professor from Gilligan's Island thing I guess. It also makes a man seem more vulnerable and loveable. Think, yes again, of Dean Kain in his superman glasses. Glasses on a man are hot, but not when they buy the invisible frames. That just looks like an old guy trying to hide that he needs glasses. They have to be bold and up front and a fashion statement, the same way young people who need glasses were them!

I will say, frameless does not look good on everyone and that not everyone that wears frameless is trying to look younger.
I have both a few sets of frameless and 3 that are bold. Either can look great depending on what you are wearing them with.
Frames are very specific to each person's face. LilTanker is a good example of rockin' the bolder frames.
These Lindberg frames were designed of super thin glass that folds flat in your pocket.

lilTanker saidI wear'em cause I have too, I hate them though, they are always getting all smudged and dirty, they look kinda meh

That's why I always hated to wear glasses as a teenager and my eyes were so bad that I had to wear them all the time pretty fast. first chance I got (had enough money) I bought contacts. When I couldn't wear contacts any longer (damn that dry CA climate) I had to wear glasses again. Even though I got lots of compliments I hated them, especially in the gym. I had my eyes lasered 5 years ago and it has been amazing.
BF has always worn glasses, but he only wears them for driving and in movie-theaters.

I think glasses make a guy more approachable.

PS lilT, you look adorable with yours

I asked about laser.. something about my eyes and an astigmatism or something means I'm not the best candidate and that i should wait until I'm older and stuff.. I don't know, I was to distracted by the hot assistant who kept smiling at me..

I don't discriminate based on bad eyesight.

So what if the guy can't see.

So what if he's sucking on my nose, but he thinks its my cock.

I'll get over it.

I love my glasses!

But then, I can't see without them.

I wear glasses. But when I go out, I usually leave them in my car.

Yeah, there is something about a man in glasses that sets my alarm off. I totally think it's extremely attractive.

TheGuyNextDoor saidI will say, frameless does not look good on everyone and that not everyone that wears frameless is trying to look younger.

It doesn't look like you have anything on your face.

I desperately want those big black wrap around sunglasses my grandmother wore after her cataract surgery.

I'm serious.

Well thank you Adrien (I think),,, that means they are doing their job.
I have other frames that are more of a fashion statement. Sometimes less is more.

i always wear my glasses save like 2 times a month usually

i have bee stopped by guys at circuit parties around pride where ppl are like, we're (a couple) so glad to see a young hot guy like yourself wear his glasses and look so good in them .. there are to many guy out there who insist on contacts lol

i was like, that's sweet
Jul 27, 2009 3:49 AM GMT
I like my contacts. Glasses aren't good for running, or playing sports with. Too risky.

However, i think glasses are about the stupidest thing you can nitpick over in regards to whether you date or even **** someone.

I wore contacts and glasses my whole life. Saved up some cash and went for LASIK about 6 months ago. I no longer have to worry about jamming foreign objects onto my eye balls anymore

But there is something about a guy in glasses that definitely makes me look twice. Maybe it's the sophisticated look that gets me going. So yes, i agree glasses are hot.
Jul 27, 2009 4:12 AM GMT
Oh and @TheGuyNextDoor... yep, you definitely confirmed that glasses are hot... woof

I used to wear glasses. Now I can't. I have kerataconis, which glasses only make worse. I used to have specially-fitted contacts to deal with it, but as my corneas degraded further they no longer work either. At some point I'm probably going to be blind.

I recently updated my metal frames for these glasses. They completely change my appearance!

In my "Str8" days, the girls always liked me in my glasses. But, I was so active with swimming, bball, vball, and the miltiary I went the contacts route. Then went the LASIK's route 9 years ago after tearing my contacts on 5 consecutive vacations or deployments.

Just make sure you go with someone when you pick out a pair of frames. Some guys look VERY hot with their glasses on.

Here I agree. When I was younger I was short sighted in both eyes, although my right eye was worse than my left. I had glasses. To encourage me, Mum used to say that I actually look more intelligent and scholarly when wearing specs, and later I realised that was true.
These days my vision had reversed and I'm now long sighted. I only wear reading glasses when needed.

I never wear mine in public because I feel like a nerdy dork. "Partner", however, finds them incredibly sexy and likes to, uh, fog them up whenever possible...

The frames really are important. My take on frames is that you might as well have some that you like; you have to wear them everyday. And have more than one pair.

Middle-aged presbyopia is what it is. Astigmatism, too. I sit at a computer all day, and my glasses are made for that. I asked the doctor if I should get bifocals (my vision is around 20/15, but, with the astigmatism) and he told me no, wait. :-)

I'm the only person in my unit who still wears his BCG's

They are the most dorkiest thick, brown glasses you'll ever see. they are nicknamed the birth control glasses.

But I like them. and I think I have enough character to pull them off.
I don't wear them always though because sometimes I just want to feel the air in my eyes as odd as that sounds.

BCGs! My roommate last year was in Army ROTC and he had them haha. I borrowed them to be a "dork" for Halloween, but I didn't mind wearing them since I thought they fit me too and were actually cool.

I don't like wearing my glasses because I look serious and smart. lol I look really good without my glasses and more comfortable. Also, I can't wear it at my gym, because it might break easy. So that is a good excuse for not wearing my glasses. lol I am ok with my sun glasses and my contact lenses. I still need to go buy more contact lenses!

i can walk around without bumping to a wall. but i wear glasses for driving, watching tv/movies, and far sight of beautiful landscapes. oh, and it turns into sunglasses under sunlight.

i don't care who wears glasses, it means nothing at all. you have to see things clearly, so you don't get into accident. and of course, checking out the details on the guys while walking down the street.

I wear them most of the time else it would be carnage on the roads - I hated wearinf them when i first had too, but now I don't mind and kinda like a man in glasses myself

I agree, glasses can be very sexy or change a persons look. I own several pairs of glasses all are Rx and change them like I change my shirts.

I like the way I feel "hiding" behind my glasses. I almost feel like it's a wall between myself and others, I feel safe -- yea, stupid.

That said, sometimes my glasses get more attention that I do. LOL (and that's ok.)

aussiered1 saidSome say a man who wear glasses should step to the back of the queue. I say get yourself to the front of the line and don't be ashamed to wear them.

Thoughts......

I don't care what "Some" people say about any aspect of what me up, and don't think anybody out there should either. Sure, some guys don't look so hot with their glasses on, but why should that take away from liking someone for whom they really, as anyone else in glasses would also like to be treated. See passed your hairy palms people!

it depends on the guy, the glasses and his face-shape, if he has that business/cute/corporate/Calvin/Klein Model look going on and is clean-cut, cute, tall - he's pretty much attractive in my book.

Silverfox1's comment is both cute and accurate. You talked earlier of being first on a queue for correction for presbyopia, well don't rush at it as you would loose a lot of the character that glasses afford. They take away the bland and add a distinct dimension to the personality.

Similar to what I just wrote to another guy, you'd be an idiot to go the LASIK way. Glasses aren't for all guys but they certainly work for some - and you're definitely one of those. Just get a few frames, get them fitted properly, and surely you're not that grubby that you get them too dirty too often? You have character with them on, so don't loose that asset of yours to some weird sense of vanity. If anything be vain in the knowledge that they really suit you.
