Anything that removes cash from the sheep's wallets and plants it in the greedy preachers pockets will work, any religion fits that basic premise.

The south is filled with these ignorant sheeple, well meaning from the depths of their ignorance based ideology. These ignorant 'believers' wouldn't have a second thought about turning our democracy into a theocracy for the sake of 'bringing our nation back to god'. They really believe there's a war on their Christianity in our country, they're STUPID !!! What else can you say for them ?

    "...She added Bachmannesquely,

'We need to insure that it does not open the door to fund radical Islam schools. There are a thousand Muslim schools that have sprung up recently. I do not support using public funds for teaching Islam anywhere here in Louisiana.'

A thousand. A thousand Muslim schools in Louisiana. Maybe that's why first-time jobless claims are decreasing there; all those Muslim school jobs at the thousand new Muslim schools that Valarie Hodges knows are out there just waiting to suck off the tax teat."

I am so glad I live in Illinois. Some of these states with their hateful, conservative small minded views scare me.

I would never want to even visit some of these states with their backwards politicians and laws.

This women cannot be serious can she? icon_neutral.gif

Regardless which kind of religious-affiliation private school is eligible to receive government vouchers, why are they eligible to begin with? Public, taxpayer funds should not be diverted to private parochial schools. Taxpayers may object to the use of endorsing religion in education, and this voucher program clearly gives government support to religion, perhaps making it a clear case of government endorsing of a particular religion over others (although here the inclusion of all kinds of religious schools puts that worry at ease....) which violates the 1st amendment (Establishment Clause) it would seem.

If parents want to send their children to private schools instead of using the public, government funded (taxes, government subsidies, etc.) schools, they have that right and option - using their own funds, not mine. I don't have kids, but don't mind my tax dollars supporting public education at all because of the ensuing benefit to society (theoretically - not sure about the current state of our education system!). I don't care to fund religious indoctrination.
How is the voucher system even tolerated and not challenged in court?

This came about under Bush with the blessing of the far right and a few Blue Dogs in Congress. It amounts to an open door to combining church and state, The far right repubs don't believe seperation of church and state exists, just ask Palin, she had a lot to say about people who were at war with christianity trying to shove seperation of church and state down the nations throat. She, Bachmann and several TBagger backed Repubs had quite a bit to say about this just a few years back.

Republicans believe in "Freedom" in the sense that you are free to live your life like they tell you to.

They follow the example that they claim they're god set for them. either you believe and do as he says or he'll set you on fire so you'll burn forever. LOL, HELL !!! He's so vindictive that he's created a fire that doesn't just burn things up like every other fire we've ever known of, its a strange 'godly' fire that just causes suffering.

GREAT GOD ALMIGHTY !!! LOL !!!! lets follow such a lead and see if its as good under these current religious fanatics or if they'll take us back to the dark ages where the 'religious' led the world and blocked knowledge and progress because it cut into their religious power and control.

Think about it !!! never in earths history has there been any good come from mixing religion and government. The mixture has always ended up taking away and limiting freedoms for the masses.

We should not be so complacent that we think that it cannot happen again, because it most definately can.
