Contrats, Kingmo. I don't know you well, but you represent what this site is all about. Clean living, hard work, health, fitness and a great attitude. You're an inspiration to all the guys here.

But no face and not exactly proud of being gay...
I wouldn't say that's a good representation of anything worthy of winning.

What am I crying over? I've won that thing and I wasn't even posting on the site. Don't be mad because you're faceless and not "out" because your spine was disconnected somewhere along the lines.

I don't know him, but he's got a great physique. At least he participates in the forums and interacts with people. So, in other words, congratulations.

well guys, thanks anyways. i appreciate the many votes i got.

TrevorMark, Anduru: actually i'm totally out and proud about being gay. i keep my face pics in my pvt pics (hey, i'm a verified member right?!) cuz i disclose my HIV status in my profile - and what i have found, is that the haters are gonna hate (evidence which you provide). but my friends know who i am!

anyone who reads my posts in the forums knows what i stand for via what i write. its not just about a good body or a pretty face or ani-gifs icon_smile.gif

its a reasonable question. even after 30 years of HIV in the world, i don't think we're out of the woods yet, in terms of stigma, judgement, bullying, blackmail, or outright violence. i think if you ask anyone living with HIV (or if you yourself are) then you will find out that many people do live in fear

perhaps in the countries like Canada, America, and in western Europe, things have become more acceptable, but I also come from South Africa, and I know that there are places in the world where there continues to be targeted violence towards gay people, HIV+ people, and so forth. many of us on this site have the comfort of living in relatively safe environments with decent civil liberties, fair policing, and criminal justice systems. but i remind you that is not the case elsewhere: 78 countries continue to criminialise gay relationships and/or 60 countries criminialise HIV, and the vast majority maintain policies which hamper the global HIV response according to the UNDP (http://www.hivlawcommission.org/).

of course, this doesn't mean that we should hide ourselves. indeed, we should stand up and be counted, which is why i put my status on this site, and talk about HIV in the forums. but this is also the internet and its wise to be careful about what one shares publicly with strangers. so my thought was that i do represent a mature group of men living with HIV who have been able to overcome that significant health obstacle and achieve a level of fitness in a natural way, which i am proud of. and other people have told me its somewhat of an inspiration to them, which is a nice thought, because i am just living my life as best i can. but the face pics are available in my private section for friends to see me and for site administrators to verify me. i think thats a good balance between putting myself out there, and also reasonably protecting myself from over exposure. if you have any other suggestions, i would be happy to hear them.

Probably justification enough for winning it

Anduru: so this boils down to a significant question: how do you think HIV+ people should act in advocating for their rights, but protecting their identities and safety in potentially unfriendly environments?

is RJ the right venue? is MOTD the best platform? remember, i didn't ask for this. like you, i'm just here to socialise! how did i become the advocate/defender for HIV privacy rights on a social platform? ;)

I often don't vote so don't check to see who's in the running, and I'm sorry I missed the opportunity to cast a vote for you.

its all good doug. thanks very much. in fact, it was a bit of a surprise. i was notified by email that someone had voted me up, but i was at water polo practice yesterday then dinner/drinks with my team mates. got home after midnight and saw the MOTD, which was a nice surprise, but because the system had turned over to the next day's candidates, i couldn't see who/how many people voted. so i couldn't thank people personally. but thanks everybody who voted! it means a lot to me icon_smile.gif
