Other name options?

Did your parents ever have other names they were going to name you? For me there is this "tradition" that all the guys on my dad's side have names that start with J, he and his brother's, his one nephew, his dad ect. So my mom really liked Joshua, it's her favorite name. My dad hated it. She also liked Jake, Jamie, Joel and Jordan. My dad like Jayden and Troy. My mom didn't want me to be a "Jr". I ended up being Justin.

If I was a girl my mom liked Kelly, Erin and Caitlin. My dad didn't like them he liked Jodi and Holly. My aunt, who was pregnant with my cousin the same time my mom was preggo with me, liked those three names for a girl and at Christmas time mentioned them as options. And my mom never said anything to her so how she knew we don't know.

So then my mom was between Alyssa and Kelsey. My aunt had my cuz in April and at the hospital was between both Alyssa and Kelsey. Again my mom didn't tell her that those were the names she was between to. Eventually she named my cousin Katie. My mom knew she couldn't name me any of those names because my aunt would always say that my mom stole "her names". So in the end my mom decided on Carly if I was a girl and I of course ended up a boy.

How about you guys? Any crazy stories behind your name?

My parents were set on 'M' for some reason so they went back and forth between Matthew, Michael, or Mark.

And I don't know if this shit was a joke or not, but they told me they thought about a traditional Armenian name, Hapet, after my dads father....pretty happy they ditched that idea.

Originally my mother was going to name me Randall if i was a boy and Raneshia if i was a girl

My older brothers and sister name begin with the letter R

    Roderick

    Renaldo

    Rochelle

My father stepped in and said I will be named after him because he felt it was being unfair to him that my mother named most of the children they had together.

I was almost a Juan Carlos. Miguel Angel won because that was the onscreen name of a soap opera leading man at the time in Mexico that my mom was watching when she was pregnant with me.

My parents liked gender flexible names so I was gonna be either Jamie or Leo and if I was a girl, I would have been Jamie or Lea...I have no idea why they changed at the last minute.

I have my father's name and his father's name. Before my grandfather's name was anglicized, it went back several generations further. There really was no doubt what I was going to be named.

As a joke my parents teasingly told me that they were going to call me Cornelius Archibald Fletcher.

My story is kind of crazy...

So, me and my sister were supposed to be flip flopped. The doctor said she was supposed to be a guy and I was supposed to be a girl.

Furthermore, my birthday is August 17th. Both of my only 1st Generation male cousins are born on June 17th and July 17th. Mike, Matt and I was supposed to be Mark.

However, my mother saw the show "Alf" and named me after their neighbor because she liked the name Trevor so much.

My parents still fight over my name to this day because I was supposed to be Trevor Mark James Alexander Scott but they ex'd out the other two, and my dad wanted James so I could be called "TJ".

    My name is 100% recycled.

They couldn't resist arranging the names so that the middle initials were "J C" icon_rolleyes.gif

I was going to be James Robert, but my grandfather vetoed that - he didn't want a "Jim Bob" in the family - and so I got "James" and my younger brother got "Robert".

I am a Jr and the second child, so I guess if I were born first and female (as my sister was) I'd be named Gina.

According to the adoption agency, my pre-adoption name was Howard.

My birth mother doesn't remember that at all. So either the adoption agency made it up, or my birth mother was plastered, either of which is plausible.

My mom says she wanted to name me Jeremy Daniel instead my dad won. I think I would have liked my mom's name better, but I'm OK with my given name.

My real name is not Karl , it's just sounds similar to my real name so I picked Karl to use as an English name.

My real name is Trần Mạnh Kha ...

My mom told me that she was going to name me "Trần Phát Đạt" ( Phát Đạt means "successful" and "rich" ) then my dad changed my name to "Trần Mạnh Kha" without asking my mom lol.

I love my current name now , because it's super rare in here .

Parents had the name "Mark" picked out for me, but then my mom's neice had a boy and named him Mark, and my parents didn't want to copy the name. In some ways I wish I had a more common name, but then again, it's kinda nice to have a name that's not so common.

My name is Dan...not Daniel, just Dan. Had I been a girl, my parents had chosen the name Barbara Ann. I'm sure I would've been sick to death by now of having the song 'Barbara Ann' sung to me a thousand times. And the nicknames aren't great either...Barb, Babs, Bar. While it does sound a little old fashioned now, there's nothing wrong with the name Barbara. Nevertheless, for many reasons, I'm thankful I was born a boy.
