I've actually given up a several of those over the past few years. The others I had never done in the first place. They're right though, it does make a huge difference in how happy I am.

In general, some thought-provoking ideas, BUT...

    #5. Change is Good?

As in mass murder? Change was good for those whose lives were cut short by 9/11, Mao, Pol Pot, Hitler, Stalin? Change was good for the estimated 50 million unborn babies just before the abortionist ended their lives?

2/3 of Americans say Obama has changed America, for the worse.

Looks like someone is taking some obvious creative liberties with that phrase in order to make an overtly self-serving political statement...

Thank you Greenhopper. I have always tried to do my own thing.... been put down because of it, but this makes me feel good about things again.... and for that i'm grateful.

Of course some can tear it apart, but it was meant in the good sense. Change is good while keeping some traditions alive. In the next few years we are going to go through dramatic change. We'll have to take the good with the bad and make the best of it.

BTW I just sent this to 30 people who really need it....lol

Missing the point here, this post is about the individual. Not change for the masses. Besides most people are idiots and think that their concept of their self is good for all. What is usually good for the masses will unfortunately excluded some. Bush government was about empowering the 5% with the opinion that they would look out for the other 95%. We all know that did not happen. In the master slave relationship the master rarely gave a fuck about the welfare of his slaves. His government was a social experiment with dramatic economic and social failure. So if re-engineering the American social experiment to protect the 95 % is bad change then I'm for Obama.

back to topic: So, sacrifice is good in a relationship unfortunately some will refuse to sacrifice for their chosen partner hence relationship is doomed.

Ayer...well put.It is surprising how even a harmless word like 'change' can be demonized even when it is used in the self-help context. Nice article GreenHopper.
    Thanks for sharing!

If only it were as easy as saying "Okay, I'm going to give these things up."

    But, it's not.

jockfever: The phrase "Change is good" is part of the Left's mindset. Conservatives are more inclined to selectively oppose change. People who confidently state that "Change is good" often say that there is no such thing as absolute truth...but that's another topic.

Whether on an individual, local, state, national, or universal level, change may be good, or it may be bad.

Someone standing near Chernobyl, yelling "change is good" as loud as he could, one second before it exploded, would look very mistaken.

How many people have thought "change is good" right before they did something that ruined their lives and perhaps many other lives? Perhaps it was eating forbidden fruit, lying, stealing, adultery, murder, or starting a war.

It's a very political time in America. You're right...I politicized this topic. In 2008 Obama's campaign theme was "Hope and Change." The underlying assumption was that Change is Good. That was a very costly delusion.

Jockfever, you`re right about the ambiguous nature of change.

A good example of the unthinking acclaim of change is the internet and its capabilities, which is actually pretty neutral in this context.

But all politicians tend to talk of change, especially those seeking power. All oppositions come to power on a wave of 'change'. It isn`t the preserve of right or left. If anything, here in the UK, it`s the left that is more sceptical of change!

The present government here, Conservative/Liberal, made much of 'change' at the 2010 General Election, as if that alone was a reason to vote for them!

Sometimes the right fetishizes words like 'flexiblity' (a code word for change) as if that was automatically good.
