I have been holding off getting solar because I see so many new technologies that are being developed right now that have so much more potential. Well, also, because I'm trying to keep my expenses down right now. I have had people come by telling me that the bill for the solar is equal to the savings to the electric bill but that still would mean increasing debt levels and I want to avoid that right now.
I will say that I don't like the roofs they put on those homes. I realize they are cheaper but I would rather have the roofs that last a lot longer and look better.
I have a 10Kw solar system (with the panels neatly arranged, on top of a nice standing seam metal roof, ha). It was very expensive and there is a "cool" factor but it was so not worth it. Literally, it cost about $100K and probably saves less than $100/month on my electric bill. I hope that costs have come way down in the past 5 years.
Also, I do NOT believe that these homes can be net zero, with electric a/c in Texas. Something else is going on.
